We had to have Elvis PTS this morning. We knew it was on the cards as his teeth have been deteriorating and deteriorating. At his last dental our lovely vet told us that his teeth had become quite crumbly and were in very poor condition. We thought we'd have another couple of weeks to make the decision but he didn't make it that far. I'm so sad that it wasn't our usual vet to PTS, but the vet I did see said he'd be sure to tell her and that all the nurses in today knew Elvis very well which was comforting. We adopted Elvis in Summer 2016 at around 2 and a half as a new companion for Barlo. It took them a long time to bond properly, but when they both began to have health issues in summer last year I would come down to find them snuggled in a hidey together.
He loved to act like the boss, but if he was ever scared he would run and hide behind Barlo! He had such a big appetite - he was always first up at the bars waiting for food in the morning. Even when I gave him his last syringe feed this morning he was chasing the syringe as I was moving it away from him to refill it! He adored being outside no matter what the weather, and was very inquisitive right until the end. These past couple of weeks during night feeds I would sit and try and do the Rubiks Cube whilst feeding him. He'd be there sniffing away (probably thinking 'what the heck is she up to - she'll never do this thing!' Lol) and looking at me. If there was anything exciting on the table when I was feeding him he'd start wandering off to investigate! As a side note, I promised myself I'd do the Cube before he passed - and I did!
I've sadly realised I don't have a huge amount of photos of him before he got poorly, but here's a few.
Love you lots Elvis you big grump! I really hope I chose the right time to let you go and didn't let you suffer too much. We tried our very best for you x
