Just wondering if you guys buy both, the IC and Sustain syringe feed to carry them through the whole recovery process? One of my girls is post op. We had the Science Selective recovery plus that she ate for the first 1.5 days and then started to refuse it yesterday. I had Emeraid IC unopened ready for this, so tried it and first was shocked it's cream color. First time using it. Didn't even consider they're not always green?! So much re-reading and googling after!

She enjoyed it. Looking at description it sounds like for higher fibre you need the Sustain version. So, do you keep them both on hand?
I used to keep CC, but more and more piggies would be adverse to it over time and started trying different brands. Emeraid is a new one to me, but this girl seems to like it.
She's eating, but I am still tipping her up.

We use sustain just because ours seem to like it the best and it is high in fibre. We've never used the IC before!

It's very strange. She really liked it, so think it's more tasty than the green ones. The colour threw me off!
I'll order the Sustain for next time. They had decent use by dates, unlike the CC I've had when they went of couple of months after delivery! I used to buy the smaller CC sachets as luckily never needed whole bag. But have picky pigs lately and shelf life on CC was terrible.
Is the Sustain to be discarded 30mins after prep as well?

We store our emergency feeds in the freezer for longevity.

Emeraid seems to be delicious, most of our pigs have enjoyed it. We mix with pellet mash to add fibre, unless a pig is very deeply unwell, this seems to help them keep weight on.

I use emeraid ic when I have a very poorly piggie, find it hard to take sustain emeraid you can only use emeraid ic for a total of ten days.once the piggie is recovering I use sustain emeraid.
Like the other member stated I keep mine in the freezer ...keeps for 2 years.
.

I use both, for severely sick piggies who can only take small amounts of food I use the IC then as they get stronger and can tolerate larger amounts of food I mix both together (for less severely sick piggies I use a 50/50 mix to start with) and gradually move towards 100% sustain before stopping syringe feeding, I find this works best for me.

The IC is semi elemental meaning the soy protein is hydrolysed so requires much less energy from the body to break down and utilise the nutrients and I find during bad cases of stasis or illness that reduces blood flow to the GI tract it's easier on their bodies doing it this way and less painful, when the guts are sluggish and slow, loads of bulky fibrous food is harder to digest initially and can lead to it giving off gas while it breaks down as its in there longer than it should be, same for during or after antibiotics where the good bacteria used to digest food may have died and caused bacterial imbalances in the gut. The IC food is still high in fibre but is less bulky, if that makes sense.

Thank you, ladies. I thought there must be some reason to them making two separate products. Just threw me off when it was pale and smelled like milk. I am lactose intolerant and this rang warning bells in my head  Had to double-read that I had the right food for the right species.
If you keep it in freezer, do you then just scoop out as and when needed? I thought it would change consistency or kill something beneficial in it?

Mentioning Emeraid, when my piggie had bladder stone surgery the exotics vets wanted to send him with the carnivore version. I questioned it and they said it's fine. I told them I have CC I'll use instead. Really surprised me, never been to that vet since but always wondered if whoever dispensed his meds just messed up or if they feed them the carnivore version...

The carnivore one doesn't actually contain any meat etc, I remember being quite taken aback by that when I had to syringe feed my African fat tailed gecko before she passed, it was soy and corn protein! But as its so broken down already the protein source apparently doesn't matter. For example my cat is severely allergic to fish but can eat hydrolysed fish because the body doesn't recognise it as an allergen protein its broken down so much already.

So technically if all you could access was the carnivore one, it wouldn't do any harm in an emergency.

It's a result of the new legislation, certain things like links or specific keywords get flagged for moderator review. It's not something you've done wrong or anything like that.
Thank you for the explanation. Very strange post to get flagged. No links, no mean words. Unless it flags up the "KiII" part talking about freezing destr0ying the beneficial content...

Thank you. It was so strange. That was the first time I've seen Emeraid and first time at that vet as it was surgery referral. So many pet foods are so processed it barely resembles food anymore! But the science is there.

Yes it is exactly that word that would have caused it to be caught up in our approval queue
