Emergency Bloat

EMERGENCY. My piggy Tina has bloat. She had some probiotics earlier as part of my weekly routine and then went on the grass for around 4 hours. She has been on the grass loads already this year and this was a short outing today. I have given her 0.3mls of gripe water as read from a Google search. She is currently sat on the washing machine on a spin cycle. Vets not open until 9am. I will take her in the morning straight away. What else can I do for her? Also what do I need to ask the vet for tomorrow they are not exotics specialists. Thanks
She has had a further 0.3mls an hour after posting this to facebook, just thought I would ask here as well. so 0.6mls in total in the last 2.5 hours.
 
@Hank288 How is your piggy?

Other than going to the emergency vet for gut stimulant medications you have been doing everything you can.

Ask the vet for injected Metoclopromide and Zantac. Also ask for Metacam for the pain.
 
Unfortunately Tina passed away sometime between 2am and 7am this morning. I had put her back out in the hutch with her 2 friends at 2am so I could get a little bit of sleep before feeding her and ringing the vet first thing. I feel like she might have been her if I had stayed with her all night and feel so guilty right now.

I'm really sorry for your loss. It's so hard but please try not to blame yourself. She was with her bestest friends and you had been doing all that you could.

Don't blame yourself, you tryed every thing . You did everything you could . How about doing a diary or photo album Of Tina it does help. My thoughts are with you. Sleep tight little Tina Run free to the rainbow bridge.

I am so sorry. Severe bloat can kill, and can kill very quickly. There is only so much you can do, even if you had been able to get to your vet straight away for gut stimulants. Many of us long term owners have lost piggies to sudden out of the out the blue severe bloat at some point, including me, and despite being able to rush my piggies to a vet as an emergency. :(

Please do not feel guilty. Chances are that if it was that bad, you would not have been able to save her even with throwing the kitchen sink at her. You might have got her through the first wave, but the second, third or fourth might have got her in the end. :(

Severe bloat is sadly one of those problems that we are still very limited with what we can do and where the available drugs are very limited in their efficiency, too.
 
Thank you everyone for your kind words. I tried my best for my little girl. It was very very sudden, she had been fine just a few hours ago and even seemed fine when I collected her from the garden just 20 minutes previous. Went to cut the veg and came back to her sprawled out in the hay tray. It is just so heart breaking.
Thanks for the information on bloat, I will try to feel less guilty now as I tried for her and I think it was a severe case.
I take comfort from the fact she had a huge amount of cuddles before she passed. I will certainly miss her loud wheeks at dinner time tonight, she was the smallest but always the loudest.

It takes time to digest it all, unfortunately. You have deal with the shock and the loss at the same time. Give yourself time to do that.
