Just looking for ideas really - having just had a bad health scare when it occurred to me that there was no one who would look after the guineas (never mind all the rest lol) if I was dragged off to hospital I have started thinking I ought to make emergency plans for all the animals somehow. My guineas tend to go on well into double figures age wise, and they are only young now so they are more in need of a plan than the other small furries like hamsters.

What do people who don't have handly friends or relatives do in emergencies? Plus is there any way of securing their future if the worst happens? Obviously I'd rather they were put to sleep than finish up for sale in the open market or with a bad 'rescue'. I can't be the only person who has worried about this?

You're very wise to think about this.

I haven't made any formal provision - perhaps I should.

I have some good rescues near me - so I know who I would be contacting.

I have my husband and parents but sadly they really do not have the time to look after them like I do so I guess they would be surrended to a good rescue. Thankfully I have the Potteries, Milhaven and BARC not too far away.

I guess the good thing about adopting from a good rescue is they can be returned should the worse happen. However, someone needs to know about it to ensure thats what happens. Its a very valid point.

Fortunatley I have my husband and children but they are also very aware at how important I is to seek help from a rescue should the unfortunate happen x

Oh what a good point. Sad to have to think about it but I guess so important really.

As an Aussie living in Scotland I have no family here to help and none of my friends are animal lovers or in a position to take them in.

My children are to young at this point to look after themselves let alone all my animals so you have now got me thinking about this as well.

I honestly just hope and pray that nothing happens until my sons are old enough to look after them but I guess that is a bit like sticking my head in the sand !

Good point and I will give it some thought also. Sorry I cannot help in any way.

I have family members who know which rescues I would trust if they are not in a position to take them themselves should the worst happen. I know people who have put instructions for their animals in their wills, some have included financial provision for the intended recipients to help with the expenses involved in the animals care.

You could contact your local rescue & see if they would help especially if you got them from the rescue. I would at my rescue on Teesside :) x
