So I’m new to owning guinea pigs .. I got clementine on Saturday and Oreo on Sunday. I got home a few hours ago and I went straight to check on them. I went to get them out and play with them and feed them and clementine, like always, let me take her out .. oreo was a little difficult today so I let her be. I noticed clementine started leaning to the left a lot and she started running in right fast circles and like .. crying it sounds like. She’s losing her balance quite a bit and when I’m not holding her she’ll start running in circles again, crying, and pooping as well as peeing alllll over the towel .. I can’t make it to get her checked until tomorrow but I just can’t help but not know if I’m doing everything I can to make her feel comfortable or not.. right now I’ve calmed her down enough that she’s stopped ‘crying’ ? and running as well as pooping and peeing all over .. she’s laying against me super cozy, I hope.. please help :(

This does sound quite urgent, and a vet is definitely needed. Is there no emergency vet you could go to now? There is a vet
locator on the top of the page, maybe that could help?
I'm not the most knowledgable on this, so hopefully someone better will come along. @Wiebke

Oh, I'm really sorry. Your little Clementine could have an infection of some sort, or bumblefoot. You should find a vet IMMEDIATELY. If you got your pigs from a store, pet stores never take sick animals to the vet. If you can't find a vet near you, can't afford it at the moment, or you simply do not have time (which in this case, would be bad) I would recommend watching the YouTube channel Little Adventures on How To Know if Your Guinea Pig is Sick. There are many videos, and I wish the best for your sweet piggy!

What region do you live in? If you live near in America, there are lots of great vets!

Just wanted to add:

This sounds like an ear infection, and ear infections can harm a guinea pig quite quickly. Though, this is the opinion of someone who is no where near a professional. The only thing that will truly help, is going to a vet - this situation seems like an emergency.
Though, other than that, is the guinea pig still eating? Such as hay, etc. If not, I recommend you give her critical care or pellets soaked in water. (In a syringe)
Also, when you head to the vet, you should get a checkup on your guinea pigs friend as well, to make sure the other is ok.
I'm sorry I cant help more, and hope your piggy turns out okay. You are doing all you can! Guinea pigs can get sick out of nowhere, isnt anything you could
of done to prevent it.

I agree with Eva121

losing her balance, leaning and running in circles are concerning and cause for a vet check. Please have her seen as soon as you can.
Is she still eating properly?

Hi!

Please see a vet and book an appointment as soon as you can. This sounds rather like a middle or inner ear infection that is affecting the balance organ. You will need an antibiotic to clear it; the sooner the greater the change of a full recovery without head tilt. it is very disconcerting for the piggy affected and also for you to observe. Please don't pour anything down her ear; you can very easily make things much worse rather than better!

I took her this morning and it turned out being an ear infection! She’s going to be on antibiotics and some medicine for her balance since that’s why she was running in circles! Thank you for all the help! :))

All the best for a quick and full recovery!

So glad you got her checked out and got treatment, hope she makes a speedy recovery!

What antibiotics and medicine did the vet give? And what doses? Hope she makes a good recovery.
