I have had nothing but rotten luck since November with our guineas and I got up this morning to find Harold having a nose bleed! So we had to make an emergency appointment and was seen within the hour. His nose was cleaned and there was a piece of hay removed but his breathing has been very laboured so he is on baytril for ten days and to return sooner if his nose keeps bleeding. His nose hasn't bled since and it was only from one nostril so I'm trying very hard to think positively, he is eating and drinking but looks alittle down. 😥 The nurse asked if we would like to move our beds in as we are there so much recently.

Fingers very firmly crossed! Has your vet checked for a potential build-up of fluids in either the lung or the chest cavity and have they checked the heart?

Unfortunately illnesses come in clusters (what a call a 'rent a tent in the waiting room' times) and they always happen at the most incovenient of times. I thought that will all my elderly ladies gone over the summer and autumn I would have a bit of a respite but instead have had to deal with a couple last minute emergencies just before our Christmas family visit and then over the turn of the year again... :(

Yes the vet listen to his heart and lungs and said lungs sounded clear and heart was not fast or had any murmurs. She also squashed him all over and didn't feel any build up of fluid. His mouth and tongue were pink and healthy looking. His weight was the same as when he was last weighed he just looks puffed out so she said she will treat for a infection and and see if he makes any improvement. His nose doesn't look like it's bled again, it was quite a lot though. I hope he's ok we don't want anymore losses we've not recovered from the last one.

I thought I would add to my post as we have had another emergency vet appointment this evening! Harold had a huge grass seed stuck in his eye! He has had it removed and has eye drops and metacam. The poor bean looks very sad and his poor eye looks sore 😞
We were seen by another vets practice as our vet wanted us to wait two hours! We were at this new place in 10min and out and back home in under an hour. They were also really nice and to see us so quickly and we are not even registered.
I have been thinking of moving vets as ours has in recent visits been quite uninterested and not really wanting to bother with us especially their attitude tonight. Definitely worth a thought... These guineas are becoming real trouble! I hope his eye feels better soon.
