Emigrating with pigs

Hi

I'm not sure if this is the right section for my my enquiry, but I am going to be emigrating to Hong Kong later this year and don't want to leave my family of pigs behind.

Has anyone had any experience of travelling such a distance with them? Were they ok? Are they able to travel in planes? I worry that their ears couldn't take it. Any thoughts would be welcome.

It's a long flight... Some airlines allow pets to travel in the cabin if they are in a carrier small enough to fit under the seat in front of you rather than in cargo. How many pigs do you have? I know someone who took two pigs with her to Spain from Sweden, but that's not nearly as far (they were fine)

Start researching airlines early and make sure you get written confirmation that you are allowed to bring your pets so that they can't refuse you at the gate!
 
To be honest I wouldn't take them, It would totally stress them out.

If they do make it ok you have to think about getting supplies for them then there is the problem of vets its bad enough over here so I dread to think what chance you have over there. I don't even know about the cost's envolved but I am guessing its not going to be cheap

I think this is a time you have to think about what they need, not what what you want.:(
 
Is there anyone in UK who'd look after them well and give you daily/regular updates on them, so you still feel a part of their care without having to put them through the journey?
 
You might need to check regulations etc as we have a friend who is emigrating to Australia and she has had to rehome her small animals as was not allowed to take them into the country, not sure what the rules are for Hong Kong. Also have you checked out what veterinary knowledge they have of Pigs out there etc.
 
Thanks everyone for your posts. Hong Kong don't have a problem taking piglets into the country, I just need to get the right paperwork. From the reading I've done HK also has good vetinary services, so that wouldn't be a problem. But such a long journey, plus any quarantine they may have to go through - and one of my girls isn't as young as she used to be!

Ruth - I think you're right, it's time to think about what's best for them. But oh, the thought of leaving them breaks my heart.8...

I secretly hoped someone would tell me that it would be ok to take them!
