As everyone know's Patrick had rather extensive surgery not long ago, he was addicted to Pearl Barley which was a blessing as I could easily get between 70 - 90 ml's into him without a problem but now he seems to have gone off it and force feeding is something I am trying to avoid as the risk of aspiration is much higher and I'd also like him to like me, so does anybody have any idea's of other fluid's I could try him on.

Thank you!

Get some of the pure fruit pureed baby food. Ella's Garden is a good make; it's 100% fruit. Comes in a few different flavours like apple, apple and pear, peaches and something, strawberry and banana.

I used it for Cameo when she had cystitis to flavour her medication and to flavour water (just mixed it 50/50 with water) and it did the trick. Was much easier to get the fluids into her and you can change the flavours around a bit so they don't get bored. I also mixed it with her barley water as she hated this! You could do the same and still get the benefits of the barley water

I'm fairly certain he's not drinking enough and after last time, I won't be stopping his fluids.

As far as I'm concerned they are the most important part of his diet, last time he developed stones 3 weeks after he decided he didn't need fluids not this time!

Xx

Amanda where stocks Ella's baby food, I'm not to bothered about the benefits of the Barley water fluid is the most important thing to me. As he currently doesn't have bladder problems.

My pigs love Recovery so I add a small amount of powder to water just to give it some flavour.

I got some broccolli Ella's babyfood and punkin to try, also going to try your idea Pebble! X

Treacle loves Avi-pro plus in water, maybe worth a try. She will normally take 10ml no problem. Perhaps after a little while Mr P will go back onto his pearl barley..

A couple of my girls also love mushed pellet or critical care so I do as Pebble suggested and make it into a "coloured water" consistency and they love it!

Good luck, I know just how difficult it can be to get fluid into a reluctant piggy! Behave for your mum Patrick!

Blitz some grass and cucumber with water and make a runny smoothie.

Sweet potatoe is ok though? Hopefully it'll give the water enough taste for him to take at least 20ml's at a time.

Or give him just water for a day and then he might get the taste for his barley water again he he he. Only kidding you could never punish darling Patrcik

Tried Amanda's idea and he took 36ml's - Happy days, as long as he keeps this up and we can change favours hopefully enough to keep him interested. I think 7 weeks of Pearl Barley perhaps is enough for him! :))... x

I'd be sick of anything after 7 weeks!

Maybe now you can have a few extra minutes in bed in the morning ? :))

Glad it worked for him, bet he thought he was getting a real treat!
