I'm currently in need of some new ideas for my guinea pig cage setup and some enrichment ideas, especially as we have very quickly learned our newer piggy, Squiggles, who is roughly 2-4 months old and weights around 450g, loves climbing onto the red house and sitting ontop of the hay inside the hay bag. Thankfully the cage bars are high enough to prevent her from jumping/climbing out of the cage, though when she gets bigger I might have to make the cage bars a tad bit bigger if she still enjoys sitting ontop of the houses... I'm running out of ideas for rearranging the cage setup (my piggies love when i rearrange their cage!) and also providing things Squiggles can safely climb on. They both really love store bought wooden toys, as well as their two small ikea teddy bears. I decided to use two cardboard boxes I have lying around, which they both really enjoy and surprisingly don't chew on. I also plan on using some paper towel/toilet paper rolls eventually.

Any ideas/tips are welcome!

That’s just a few ideas but I’m sure other people will come along with good ideas

My piggies LOVE hay cubes. I get the large one (or make my own) and buy a bag of forage (my lot have always preferred herbal blends rather than floral). You can sprinkle some forage around the cage for them to find, something which they'll find very enriching as this is something they'd do in the wild. Hay cubes offers hours of fun. Foraging, playing, sleeping. I often refill with hay and forage when they've eaten it's contents.

Fleece forests or a blanket draped over a corner is fun. Scattering pellets and veggies also makes them work for their food and exercises the mind.

I have piggies that like to sit on top of bendy bridges so could be something to look into. I'd recommend getting some c&c grids to make the walls a little higher as an adventurous piggies my hop over.

Hi

You can always peg a towel over the top of the cage to prevent your piggies from climbing over or jumping out. I have found that very effective; especially as a quick measure when one of mine developed a liking for the 'high life'.

My Blodyn's favourite lair is on top of the hut my husband built for me and is topped by what I call my 'bus shelter' from when I had larger groups, but it came in handy for preventing her neutered half-brother from jumping into the adjoining table cage (which has now gone).

Grouping huts and climbing places in the middle of cage instead around sides they can jump over can also be a very simple way of preventing issues.
