We rescued our Brandy boy on Friday, since last night he’s become much more happy and settled and has begun zooming around the room and has become much more settled. In six weeks time he will be getting a little friend. We bought lots of toys bought for him, however his favourite things to play with are cardboard boxes and toilet tubes, I’ve turned them into hay feeders and hideys but is there any other ideas out there I could do with these as he’s so happy exploring them?

Piggies generally don’t do ‘toys’ and are very happy with a toilet tube stuffed with hay and hidden herbs, or even a paper bag stuffed with hay and some forage. Have a read of the link below for some more ideas.

Hi!

Don't spend lots of money on fancy toys; they mostly go unnoticed. Cardboard boxes, toilet roll inners and brown paper bags beat them anytime paws down!
Here is our enrichment guide with lots of ideas, pictures and videos appealing to all senses: Enrichment Ideas for Guinea Pigs
You also may find this guide here helpful: Potentially Dangerous Cage Accessories And Toys

Both these guide links are part of our much more comprehensive New Owners guide collection which addresses specifically all the areas we get the most questions and concerns about, helps you to understand your guinea pigs better (including a little course in 'piggy whispering', learn what is normal and what not and how to monitor weight and health regularly throughout the life to hopefully catch any slowly developing problems before they become a life or death emergency.
You may want to bookmark the link and use it as a helpful resource as you go along. Unlike a book, the guide format allows us to update and extend the collection at need.

Hi, there are so many things you can do with cardboard boxes! The only bad thing about them is that you have to throw them out after a little because they get really dirty. We made something we call "hay boxes" by cutting door ways in cardboard boxes and filling it with hay. You can also turn them over and use them as hideouts. We collected a bunch of boxes and cut doorways into them, and lined them up in a circle. The guinea pigs run around from box to box and popcorn a lot. It is really fun to watch them!

I second the brown paper bag idea - we had a pig that loved a bag with nothing in! He'd shoot straight in and go crazy... I don't know what he was doing but the bag would roll about all over the floor!

Mine love eating the cardboard toilet roll tubes that you’ve mentioned but I noticed in your picture you have left it whole... I always cut mine down the middle as I’ve heard horror story’s where guineas have gotten their heads stuck in them!

Mine love a cardboard box - i recently had an amazon delivery and it was a long tube so i cut out little door ways in it and they love it! Have cut them a little castle shaped one too  they are quite happy with them and they are free which is even better..... the only other things i buy them for enrichment are a carrot cottage and the odd large cardboard tube from Wilko..
