Equisorb Bedding

I read on here that Flinstones was using this in 2010. I would appreciate on any tips from flint stones or anyone else on buying, storing, using and mucking out with equisorb.

I am intending to keep two female Guineas indoors in a 4 x 2 coroplast and cube cage. They will be bought from a breeder as babies.

I advise you contact the seller to make sure there are no ingredients in thus product detrimental to Guinea Pigs. I would imagine it us very similar to Aubiose -

We are also trying rescue centres to see if there is a pair of females who would be happy resettled here together in our family. But it is a long journey from here to any of them.

Equisorb is recommended by the reading rescue centre / gorgeous Guineas. We cannot rehome from that centre as we are outside their permitted radius.

I am wanting some practical tips on using equisorb in the best possible way to keep Guineas happy and healthy.

Thank you to Flinstones for some advice in a conversation. We acquired two baby females this weekend and they seem to be settling in nicely. We are using Equisorb. It was advised in an article I read by someone who runs / works at the Reading Guinea Pig rescue and is also involved with Georgeous Guineas, I think.

Some people on here say it's hard to get hold of but I bought one bale online for £15 including delivery from www.horsebedding.co.uk ---- trying to buy it over the internet didn't work as it kept on trying to add a further £10 for delivery so I placed the order over the phone and it was delivered onto my driveway the next working day.

So far so good but I'm still learning how best to use it so that it doesn't take too long to spot clean each day and so it doesn't get used up too quickly.

I started off with about 3cm of it on a layer of newspaper. But scraping around I realised the newspaper was getting wet in places and it made the bedding shift around. Also, it was quite time consuming picking up the poops without also picking up a lot of loose equisorb. So I've taken a different approach today. I have put loads more in and packed it down firm all over with my hands. It seems to be much easier to pick poo off the top now with the end of a plastic teaspoon. And I think I will be able to see by looking (tricky though) which bits are very damp and dig them out and pack in more fresh equisorb in those areas.

So I'm hoping that I won't have to empty the whole lot out and start again for several week. The instructions for horses say that ultimately it takes about a bale a week for one horse in one stable. So I'm hoping that two little piggies will take quite a while to use one bale.

equisorb is a flax bedding,it is soft and absorbent,ive seen it on an article on gorgoues guniea pig shampoo website.also tilehurst guinea pig welfare recommend bedding for guinea pigs and there website have information on it.i tried a flax bedding it seemed extremely soft but not so absorbent.i use aubiose and megasorb in the litter trays.Bedding is a personal decision as what works for you may not for others.factors such as,budget,time,number of guinea pigs,and personal preference.there is an thread on the forum on an overview of bedding which is very informative which ive seen @PiggyOwner has put links to in her post.to the friendly forum.please show some pics of your piggies when you get chance. My experience is i have tried several beddings to find out what works best for me,i use fleece bedding in some c and c cages,finacard cardboard bedding,found on line ive also like alot .Hope you find a bedding you like,good luck.
