Eric weighs 1550g and is very round. I tried cutting out pellets and just feeding hay and veg (being careful re vit c of course) 2 weeks ago but he actually put on 50g rather than losing any. How can I diet him effectively? Babe weighs 850g but this is normal for her, she's a very small pig. Eric has always had weight problems, the thinnest he has been is 1300g when he was poorly.

Only a few guinea pigs are overweight - your Eric is most probably simply a chunky boy and still within the normal range for a big guinea pig! As long as his weight is stable and he has the possiblity to move around enough, there is nothing wrong with him. Some guinea pigs can make it up to a whopping 1800g.

I worried about my Llewelyn for a time, when he was putting on a lot of weight and started looking pudgy. But as he is an active boy, a bulging waistline is obviously just his body shape!

But of course, being double size from your other piggies, makes him stand out even more!
