Probably one of the best attributes of a guinea pig is that they never choose to escape even when the chance is right there!

I came home today to find the cage open. Apparently that meant it must have been like that ALL DAY.
My heart honestly stopped as I glanced to the cage and saw only 1 (and I was suddenly thankful I had closed the living room door that day!). I walk closer to the cage and the other pokes a head out from a hidey. No trace anywhere in the room that they vaulted the small cage tray lip and any time and took a roam.

Thank goodness for contented laziness!

Oh - lucky you - there's nothing worse than an escapee.

Oh god I bet you got a fright.:yikes: My Toast is like this, I leave the cage door open when I'm in and she will only venture about 30 cm out the door. Beans on the other hand, would be half way to Australia if given the chance...

Lol a couple of year back, my teenage son who is autistic and never shows much emotion in his voice casually looked out of our kitchen window and said "erm the guinea pigs aren't in their run!"

And the pair of them were side by side muching grass at some distance from the run but going nowhere fast! They must have eacaped hours earlier as i had put them out in the morning and this was about 4pm.

Luckily they were none the worse for their adventure but i always make sure the run is not set up overhanging a hollow in the lawn now.

My pigs got out of their play pen a few days after getting them. They slipped right through the bars, even the pregnant one! They look a lot bigger than they really are! The older pregnant one just looked at me and let pick her right up. The smaller one gave me a run for my money. I had to chase her around the couch a couple of times but then she took mercy on me and allowed me to grab her! So scary!

I opened my hutch sleeping compartment the other day and Coco was right on the edge and just plopped out. She made a run for it and found a rather large rasberry/gooseberry bush. I couldn't see her I could just hear her making noises of content as she was having the time of her life nibbling away. After an hour of intense bribing I managed to grab hold of her!

While she was having the best time ever i was shaking like a leaf and on the verge of tears thinking I'd never get her back. Little munchkin!
