So, I was just wondering if anyone else has a piggie that likes to get their own way? I.e. during floor time my girl somehow found a way to squeeze through the dog gate from the kitchen, into the living room.

Or even worse she found a way to get out of her cage to the shed floor..... it's worse because the cage is on top of a cage to it's waist height..... I'venow moved their hidy so even if she climbs on top of it she can't jump off, andalso moved everything away from the cage..... it's like I have to constantly keep watch on her...... does anybody have advise because she's so full on 😓 she's the white and brown one on my profie pic btw.

Thank you 😊

Hi!

Treat her like a toddler - remove what you can anticipate, make sure that you do not leave any doors open or cables unprotected and get everything out of her reach as much as possible; but brace yourself that your inventive piggy will always beat you when it comes to finding new ways!

On the other hand, PLEASE treasure her; curious adventurers are not that common and they are so much fun! Encourage her to explore safely under your supervision. Challenge her with new experiences, train her through her curiosity to do tricks etc. Your life won't be the same, but one-of-a-kind piggies don't come along often. It is like living with a pint-sized dog. Boredom is not what you are going to suffer from, but you won't want to miss the time with her...

PS: Have you ever had to try to explain with a straight face to the gasman that the cardboard barrier on the staircase was there to keep your guinea pig from sneaking upstairs? Minx discovered her favourite hobby only 10 days before she gave birth to unplanned pet shop babies, at that! Talk about heart attacks! I only found her by making my food call, and there was this wheek coming from upstairs... :yikes:
She was also the one who sneaked into our fridge when my OH couldn't make up his mind what he wanted for lunch!

I STILL miss Minx, even though it is a dozen years since her death and I had an amazing piggy group adventure since... Here is a little tribute to her and her antics: It Is 10 Years Today...

Sounds as if you have a real character there.
Be prepared to be aged rapidly!

Just read your lovely tribute.
She was very aptly named and it’s no surprise you still miss her.

Awwww I'm really sorry, and tbh I treat Ivy like a dog, during floor time if I call her she always comes...... she does have her cute moments but it's literally like having to have eye's in the back of your head with her, though speaking of the fridge she has tried to get in and succeeded, luckily I noticed she was in there straight away and got her out before she caused too much damage, bless her though her personality is just so strong 😂.

Just cherish Ivy and cherish the time you have got with her; it is always going to be a charmed and blessed part of your life. ;)
Piggies like Ivy or Minx don't come along often. They are a special gift; like a larger pet that has mistakenly been born in a tiny body.

I did really go through the full pet bereavement with Minx, but that was a dozen years ago after I only had her for 3 magic years.
These days I feel blessed to have had her and to have had that instant contact and bond with her because Minx I could give the most enriched of lives and I got some of the happiest years of my life as a result. It was tough when it came to an end, but I would go through it all again in the blink of an eye for the sheer joy and fun I had with her.

What I would urge you is that you enjoy every day as it happens as if it was the last day. Treasure your special time even when you are exasperated! Take as many pictures and videos as you can; they will keep your memories alive and warm your heart for the rest of your life.
