Help! Please don’t judge but we haven’t even had our guinea pigs a week and my 9 year old thought it would be a good idea to let it have a bit more freedom whilst I was in the shower! The other is still in its cage but the escaped one is loose under a very large decking area which also has a very large shed/log cabin on it so it can’t be dismantled. The guinea pig is only around 9 weeks old and obviously hasnt really got used to us yet so won’t come to us. We have seen it under the decking around 8 pm tonight so we know it was still there and alive but it’s got lots of builders rubble under there so not sure even if we could even get a stick in there that it would do much good. I’ve put two live traps outside the area with some carrot, strawberries, parsley and dandelion leaves in it and I’ve left the run under the hutch open in the off chance it decides to come out and head for home and try to see his brother. I’ve had to come to bed but I’ve also left my window open in the hope I’ll hear the trap go off (praying I’ve set it up correctly). I'm not sure what else I can do? I am obviously very worried about him and his brother and have two very upset kids as well as the one that is the culprit and didn’t listen when I told her to leave them alone and not to cuddle them unsupervised 😡😢. Do you think it will come out and we will catch it?

Oh no, sorry for the stress you're going through. Someone posted quite recently that a young piggy had run away in their garden or something, and they did get it back. Good luck 🤞

Oh no! What a stressful situation. I really hope he comes back. Good luck, fingers crossed 🤞

It will know it has to eat. So I’m hoping it will come out. Do you have grass in your garden? Good idea to put the smelly hay into the traps. I’m sorry you are all going through this. These things do unfortunately happen. Your son must be feeling so bad. I hope he comes home. 🤞

I hope the little comes out soon. I am sure his hungry belly will entice him out xx

I’m sorry to hear this. How stressful it must be. Hopefully said piggy will return home soon.

Out of curiosity, what kind of traps did you set? Do you mean a carrier or box with food in it?

Fingers crossed piggy is back safe and sound with you.

I hope he made an appearance overnight.. Keeping everything crossed for the little fellow.

Let us know xx

Fingers crossed for you that he return home 🤞🏻

Good luck. I've also got decking on my porch and have always worried about the pigs getting under there. Try to find comfort in atleast no predators can get under there so he's relatively safe. Also it's not a terrible temperature for him to be outside, it could be much worse in winter. I really hope you find him soon! I remember the farmer I got my guinea pigs from (Winston, bee & boo) said that he had lost one of the baby guinea pigs that had jumped out too fast outside. (Short black fur) He presumed the worst as there was no shelter really and a farm is a very big place. Then a month later he found this huge shiny long haired black guinea pig that had completely transformed (had been grazing on grass all day everyday I think). He managed to catch him in the end but he was very hard dto catch and he regularly tries to escape to this day when the cage is open for feeding time! We've all got our fingers crossed for you. ❤️ Xx

Just wanted to add you could also put some soiled bedding from his cage mate into the traps - maybe a familiar piggy smell will help lure him in.
I also know one member had success using pre recorded piggy noises from You Tube.

I really hope you get him back.

Even the OH was wondering whether your piggy had put in an appearance when I told him your piggy was under the decking and that is saying something! He leaves all things piggy related to me.

It was a live metal trap and yes it did the trick and his 36 hour adventure came to an end. Thankfully we have had no dramas since and I hope it remains that way!

Sorry with all the excitement at the time I forgot to post an update! The live trap worked and we caught him unharmed although a few grams lighter. His 36 hour adventure had finally come to an end and touching wood, we have had no dramas since! Thanks for all your thoughts, good wishes and hopeful suggestions. Don’t think we would of caught him if we hadn’t if borrowed a live trap!

That's fantastic news! So glad your piggy was caught and is back home again. :yahoo:

Amazing news, so glad you’ve managed to catch the little monkey x

Amazing news! How are your two piggies doing now? :) Do you have any pics of the culprit? :)
