My poor little Esme is on baytril for a possible urine infection.

I health check all my girls on a weekly basis but due to being poorly myself this weekend, it has been 9 days since I last did it (feel such a bad mummy now mallethead ). I noticed that she had what looked like a urine scald around her bum (she always sits in her wee so I keep her bum trimmed, and give it a wash fortnightly). I rang the vets straight away and got her an appointment 2hrs later. He asked loads of questions, then prescribed baytril as it is most likely caused by an infection, and advised me to use a bit of sudocrem on the sore area. I also need to wash her bum more regularly, at least weekly.

He also asked what they were bedded on and I said I use puppy pads and hay. He told me how bad sawdust is for guinea pigs (respiratory problems at the very least) and that what I was using was perfectly fine.

If after 7 days there is no improvement I need to go back, sooner if it gets worse.

I am so glad I called the vets straight away, it really is the best thing to do if you are worried about your little ones.

I now need to syringe feed the baytril.....I just know she's going to hate it :(

Fingers crossed she gets better soon.

I am sorry your little one is unwell. I really hope she gets better soon.

Poor Esme. Hopefully you have caught it in time and she will soon feel much better. They do keep us on our toes, don't they?! :)

Lots of healing vibes to Esme, hope she feels better soon

I hope she gets better soon, I've just got Oats back to health after lots of anti-biotics for an infection, 3 types in the end but he's ok now. I worried a lot, syringe feeding the meds was new to me and at the end we finally had it sown pat! I gave it him when he was most hungry (when I came home from work) and gave him basil as a treat after.
