Esme isn't well.

Back at the vets tomorrow with Esme, she has started with her laboured breathing on Sunday afternoon, which is not being completely controlled with her normal furosemide doses, and the additional half doses I am allowed to give are not having that big an impact. Yesterday she had the extra half dose, lazed around for a bit for it to work then had a huge wee, and went for a run up the living room and must have exhausted herself. She is still fairly lively but not how she normally is, and I don't know how much she is eating, she is producing fairly soft poos which she keeps treading in and getting on me. I have been givig her some syringe feed but I suspect this may be adding to the soft poos cause it had a lot of extra water in.

Poor baby. I really hope they can find out what is wrong and get her well.

Poor Esme :( hopefully the vet can get to the bottom of what is causing this. Sending lots of healing wheeks x

Poor Esme :( Hope it all goes ok. Lots of love to her x x

She has come in today for her meds and some hay and grass. She isn't doing her breathing thing at the moment and is stuffing her face- neither of which she has done for the past 2 days despite the additional doses of furosemide. I think she just wants me to look stupid at the vets.

That's their superpower..... Just sent you a pm x

What were the vets thoughts on her being a heart pig again? My heart pigs have good days and bad and it really does vary depending on the weather and humidity etc and need high doses of diuretics when this happens (probably higher than your vet has prescribed).

Been to the vets, we now have some vetmedin to try her on and then back in a month or two to see how she is doing. She is being treated as a heart pig now. She has been having 5mg per day in two doses, which is the bottom end of the range given on guinealynx and is having half doses if she is still breathless. On Sunday she haf an extra half dose in the morning and evening and didn't make much improvement, and she had an addtional half dose on Monday which didn't do much, but she has been fine this morning.

Just a little update on Esme. She is still very much up and down, but we are managing. This weekend she had another breathing episode , which sorted itself out with the extra dose of furosemide. Only problem is when she does have a funny episode it has a knock-on effect on her guts- misshapen, soft poops ( which the furosemide won't be helping)
Despite having lost weight again- she is still happy and running around like a loon and eating lots. I can really tell when she is poorly as she just has so little interest in anything so I am glad we have got her through it. We will be going to the vets for a check up in a few weeks, so providing she doesn't drop any more weight and starts to regain what she has lost then we should be ok until then. Of course if anything happens (touch wood it doesn't) then we shall be back at our second home.

Lots of love to Esme x x

Just my luck.
Esme is due another check up in November, but I've brought it forward so hopefully I can get her changed onto furosemide tablets instead of liquid. Which should hopefully last longer as well as not waste so much. So I rang to make an appointment this morning to be told my usual vet has broken her arm so isn't doing appointments for a while and instead I have got to see the vet who I know doesn't know a great deal about piggies :-/ But needs must.

let's hope that you can still change the med! Vibes for Esme!

Wishing Esme better! Sorry to hear about all the troubles, it cant be easy on you. She is a beautiful girl and a stunning colour!
