The first thing I think about when I wake up are the guinea pigs! The last thing I think about before I go to sleep are the guinea pigs! I check on the guinea pigs morning, noon, and night - Before I leave the house, when I enter the house, and every so often throughout the day if I am at home! I will arrange a 'carer' if I find that I will be away from home for several hours (For example, over night), who I will call as often as I feel necessary to ask how the guinea pigs are! All I think - And worry about - are the guinea pigs. . . And it exhausts me!

Of course, I absolutely adore the guinea pigs, but, occasionally, I feel that our relationship is very one-sided. . . I do feel completely owned by them, and when I have not 'effectively, and efficiently fulfilled my duties', I feel a great sense of remorse - More so, when one becomes ill, and/or dies!

Am I the only one that feels like this?! :(

Yep, all the time ! Worry constantly. If am out all day in meetings then I arrange for my lovely mum to pop in. If I work from home I constantly feel the need to pop in and make sure they are ok. I even have a temperature gauge by me bed which tells me the temperature in their shed and wake in the middle of the. Isn't sometimes to check it. It's ridiculous and drives me nuts ! But they do return their love and affection so I can live with it! :-)

I'm constantly worrying about them. My friends and family find it bizarre how much I worry. All it means is that you want the very best for them. To me, knowing they're healthy and happy, is their side giving back. :)

Completely get that, tbh, it was probably the worry that kept me home and made me miss lectures. I guess in hindsight I've always been able to catch illness's really quick. But it is rather draining.
But I love them!

I feel that guinea pig welfare has greatly improved in a relatively short period of time. . .

However, I feel that we are very much in the midst of this guinea pig revolution - I have not heard of a guinea pig being housed with a rabbit for several months; creative cages, and bespoke/larger hutches are very much sought; good-quality hay, and feed are becoming widely available; and good veterinarian care is becoming reasonably accessible etc. . .

On the other hand, it has become quite common for individuals to purchase more than two guinea pigs at a time (Trios, and quads appear to becoming quite popular - I realise that a certain store is very much to blame); creative cages take time to assemble (Once you have the material), and bespoke/larger hutches are fairly expensive, and may take several weeks to deliver (Although, they are worth the extra expense/time); good-quality hay, and feed are only largely available over the internet; and one is often required to travel a fair distance to receive good veterinarian care - Which, when you have an ill guinea pig, is not ideal - etc. . .

I do feel that it is a difficult, and stressful time to keep guinea pigs. . . Especially, as daily life is not getting any easier - Perhaps, one of the reasons I am feeling a great sense of remorse at this moment in time, is because the last couple of months have been quite difficult, and I do not feel that I have had as much time with the guinea pigs as I would like!

I would absolutely love-hate to be a new guinea pig owner at this time!

I worry about my piggies all the time i love them so much and my non piggy owner family and friends think its weird how i am with them. They are part of my family! I sadly lost a guinea pig last year and was devastated, but what made it worse was people having the "why are you so upset, it was only a guinea pig" attitude

Everyone who knows me knows how important my pigs are to me. They somehow make their way into every conversation I have and have even got a couple of my friends rumblestrutting when they're not happy with something (they don't even have piggies! It makes me look quite sane in comparison)
Every time I leave the house I spend most of my day hoping they've got enough hay, food, what they're up to and hoping they're not bored.
As soon as I get home I go straight to them....then say hello to my fiancé.
It's totally normal to worry about them most of the time and wondering if they're happy. I think as long as they are well fed, clean and have comfy places to nap (as well as lots of roming time out of the cage) they're happy as a pig in...hay :)
