Wheekallweek
Adult Guinea Pig
So, long time no see!
We’ve welcomed a new member to the permanent piggy family at @Merrypigs Sanctuary... everyone meet Eric!

Eric has finally come home with me from work after being in isolation for three months; at one point we were considering putting him to sleep he was so bad
Long story short he was kept with another juvenile boar in a very small cage. Fighting naturally ensued however his owner left the pigs together like this for three months. His owner would not surrender the ithercpiggy to us; apparently “the other one’s worse than that”. I hope he’s ok
She brought him in to us, wouldn’t take him to the vet on our instruction and told us “he’d be going back in with the other one” if we didn’t take him now. So of course we did.
I’ve never seen wounds like it on a guinea pig before, massive open wounds all over his body, muscle and fat showing underneath.
The final wound has only just healed as, traumatised, he would repeatedly open them, crying in pain the whole time. He just couldn’t stop himself. It obviously didn’t help that he was suffering from sarcoptic mange also.
Here he is as one of his wounds was healing (his hair is all greasy due to his Xeno treatment)...

It took a long time for me to be able to handle him, although physically healed we would scream and cry. He still does occasionally poor mite, although I can now cuddle him, touch his body and even carry him around with me! Touching him anywhere but his head and cuddling him before was a big no no.
Eric and his new Mum!

But it’s a happy ending! He’s a proper mummy’s boy even though he’s only been home for 24 hours. Although I’ve been caring for him at work the whole time so I guess that’s cheating haha!
Here’s to a long and happy life for Eric with his new Mum! (and kudos for reading all that lol, sorry!)
Mmmm lettuce!
