“Everything AND the Kitchen Stink!”

Blimey, I won’t be making that mistake again. I decided I wanted to thoroughly clean the pig room whilst cleaning out the cages so I put my seven lads under their various cage lids in the kitchen out the way. They all awaited their turn at free ranging prior to returning to their freshly cleaned cage.

Honestly, it was carnage and I spent more time fielding pig disasters than I did cleaning them out. Events included:

- Henrik (Herbie’s new baby friend) suddenly finding his hormones and doing a lot of showing off in front of the others. Yes, he has developed quite the rumble strut and an instant dislike of Rupert and Algernon.

- Herbie managing to break into Rupert’s lid which enabled Rupert to escape. Luckily, disaster was averted as they are sworn enemies.

- Rupert breaking out for a second time and almost encountering the strutting baby Henrik.

- Algernon breaking out whilst Rupert was out (again disaster averted just in time).

- Henrik continuing to show off upon his return to the pig room and Herbie having to keep him in line.

- An impeccably behaved Fernando, Barnaby and Claudio who just looked bemused at all the chaos.

- Me spending a very long time cleaning an extremely stinky kitchen floor.

Back to cleaning them out one set at a time it is!

What a day you've had! I must admit I find one cage at a time the least trouble in the winter. In the summer they have runs in the garden which makes life so much easier.

Running the UN is a doddle against juggling piggies on a deep cleaning day...
It IS much easier in the warmer half when you have the lawn instead of having to put up the runs in the kitchen in order to avoid WWIII!

Haha, bring on the sunshine I say. Pig cleaning is much easier in summer! I think I need to keep little Henrik and Herbie well away from the others. It looks like the new little scamp was getting a bit carried away. I think Herbie has really enjoyed having a little one to lead since losing Hamish but it looks like we might be in for some interesting teenage months! I hope their friendship lasts.
