Hi,
Well I'm thinking of having my first Guinea pig, well I was woundering
if you could please help me out?
I'm not sure on what food best, cage sizes, so on!
I would like my guinea pig to be inside is that fine?

Thanks, :)
Nikki

firstly i would suggest getting two instead of one. i think pellets are good to use as theres no picking the best bits out O0 also fresh veg daily and i think that piggies do better inside especially in the winter :)

oh mine live in a c&c cage: http://www.guineapigcages.com/

Hi and welcome 2 are best, the cage requirements are 4ft x 2ft. :)

Hi :) your piggy/s will be happier inside! As the others have said, two is best but if you look around rescues you may find a single male who doesnt like other piggys! I think pellets are best too :) erm... i'd recommend girls for a first time owner if you're getting two because they're much more likely to stay friends and you can add more if you want to in the future, on saying that it is possible to bond males and some even have 3 living together :) x

Hi there and welcome to the forum from us in OZ :)
We were first time piggie owners and we got two boars who we've loved dearly :smitten:
A little hint, have 2 of everything then there's no arguments :)
Good luck and well done for asking questions first O0

Hello, :)
Thank you so much for the replys, my mum said to me I can have one next
year around Febuary-March time, because then we'll have a cage free, as we use guinea pig
cages for my mums tortoises, but we're making a shed for them now...
Back to topic, I like the look of C & C Cages do you have to order online or can you
buy them from pet shops? And what are the pellets from? Where do I get Pellets from?
Would it still be alright to get 1 female guinea pig? Or is it really recomended to have 2?
And I'll have my guinea pig inside in my bedroom! O0
As I'm very new to all this what are "Boars"?
And as for cage requirements is it 4ft(long) x 2ft(wide)?
Sorry If there are loads of questions, I would like my first one be perfect and ready! O0 O0
Thanks
Nikki

Guinea pigs much prefer to be in pairs as they are very sociable creatures and just one would be unhappy without interaction with his/her own kind. I have c & c cages too, I was lucky and got them on ebay UK cheap but it depennds where you are? They have them everywhere in the US but hard to get here in UK, Screwfix direct do them. Large cages are just as good though, a nero 4 or similar for 2 piggies.

Pellets are specially formulated for piggies as they have the right balance of nutrients. I use burgess supa guinea excell. With the mix, they feed selectively, so dont get all nutrients they need :)

A boar is a male guinea pig and a sow a female. Yes 4 foot long by 2 foot wide is the minimum, bigger is always better. They need lots of exercise, mine all get floor time daily and live indoors. I have 8 boars living in 4 pairs and they get on fine but their cages are very large and they have 2 of everything except water bottles ;D

welcome to the forum :)

boars are male guinea pigs ;)

most pet shops should sell guinea pig pellets, they are made up of the bits guinea pigs need but shaped into pellets that all look the same to prevent selective feeding O0

Good luck with getting everything sorted

Hi Nikki, welcome to the forum :)

You can buy C&C cubes and grids from Screwfix http://www.screwfix.com/prods/43900/Ironmongery/Shelving-Systems/Storage-Cubes/4-Cube-Display you will probably need 2 packs to get a large C&C run. You will also need correx, I'd recommend looking in the Yellow Pages under 'Sign Writers' and call a few for quotes, it comes in big sheets which they may cut down to size for you. When measuring your C&C correx, don't forget to include an extra 6-10 inches for a 'lip' around it for the sides. There are some good threads in the Housing section of the forum about how to make these C&Cs and where to source the stuff needed. There's a US site called www.cavycages.com who have some fab ideas.

As already mentioned, rescues are overflowing, especially after Christmas. It's definately worth checking, if you are not sure where one is in your area, don't be afraid to ask in the Rescue section of the Forum, you'll get some good help!

We've only ever had boars, we love 'them :smitten:
