Right ok, I shook the guinea fleece to change them out. I was sweeping up the poop and hay from the white correx and noticed tiny tiny insects crawling about. There are lots of them (inoticed about 7 in the two minutes i was looking. anyway, i scooped one up onto a piece on white paper and dropped a bead of water under it, blue tacked a loop to the back of my phone camera and took this amazin photo concidering they range from about a quarter of a mm to half a mm.
HELP ME! WTF IS THIS. they have 6 legs and large spread wide spread antenna. This makes me question parasites or mites?!?

I would take the piggies to the vet's to get them checked over & take one of the bugs in a container as well, so they can check under a microscope. I am not sure whether they are lice or not, but could be.

I just looked through they hay and YES it's crawling with them! it's in the wheelie bin! What are they?!

I have no idea what it is am afraid but I too think it most likely came from your hay, so I would throw all of the hay and infected bedding out (wash the bedding on highest temperature possible if not disposable) and get the pigs checked over.

Booklice like damp humid conditions & live on mould so could have come from the hay if it has come from a farm or been stored in plastic bags or damp conditions. They are harmless & won't live on your piggies but you need to get rid of the hay & make sure you have washed & dried everything properly.

They do look like book lice, they can infest your house can they not?! MY SKIN IS CRAWLING! THAT'S THE LAST TIME I BUY HAY FROM THE RANGE!

Don't panic! Book lice are almost in every house, mostly people don't notice them :) They can appear in opened packets of cereal, rice & flour so make sure kitchen cupboards are clean & all opened food is sealed :) Make sure there is no dampness near your piggies.

Thank you so so much. I feel a little more calm that i don't think they're parasites. Sweet jesus, i was about to do a Britney and shave my head. RIGHT, I'm AWAY TO WAGE WAR AGAINST THEM!

Lol they can't harm you, we've had one or two a few years back when we had a kitchen put in because the units were stored in our garage which was damp. Keep things clean & dry & kill any you find or if you want catch them & tip them outside. The hay must be damp & mouldy which would concern me more as that is bad for your piggies' health.

I have redigrass and they were sitting open beside each other, see if that expensive readigrass is infested! or their food! I'm gunna crack up! :( lol

LOLz, aint no book lice stealing my sense of humor!

You should write a letter of complaint to the range and attach your pics! Where about in Scotland are you from? The Range have just opened a huge store near me but luckily I don't buy hay from there!

that's a good idea actually. Now they range is out and the pigs wont eat morrisons or tesco hay can anyone recommend places i can get decent quality hay that's cheap to mix with their good hay and put in their bed boxes?

Oh, and I live in glasgow :)

I've not seen anything in ours, but Becky has been posting not me, I've not really had a look. We were looking at timothyhay.co.uk they are quite reasonable if you are willing to buy in 10kg bags.

Apart from that we've been using pets at home.

I'll keep checking our stuff, it may have been a store thing or a particular brand or batch of hay thing.

If you're in Scotland might the cheapest option not be to buy a field and grow your own :P

I was buying hay from Asda for a while. It's Bob Martins Meadow Hay. My piggies loved it. I found that sometimes I got a good batch with green bits in and sometimes it wasn't so good but piggies still munched it up. I now use Hay For Pets but at least I know I can grab the meadow hay at short notice if need be :)
