I have had to share this and i am sure Claire will add to this.Claire received couple calls about a boar brought into a vets by a breeder to be put to sleep...it had a poorly paw "bumble foot".They had 20 Guinea Pigs and wanted this one put to sleep. The vets were not happy with this and fortunatly contacted us through a friend,as they could not justify putting the piggie to sleep. So they told the owner to leave the piggie.
Claires hubby Phil picked the boar up today....which turns out to be a neglected ex breeding sow about 4 years old ! She has poorly paw and mites,Claire will add to this thread with more info.
It beggars belief how awful people can be,but this sow now cast aside after her usefulness has gone, is now safe with Claire and receiving antibiotics, supplied for free by the vets. Her name is now Lavendar.

Poor Lavender. How disgusting of those people to want to have her put to sleep. It sounds like they could not be bothered taking care of her any more. That is so cruel. They could have given her to a rescue. Than goodness she is going to be well cared for now. Poor baby.

Aww a happy ending in the end though!

Hope Lavendar is feeling better soon, although I'm sure shes feeling better already :)

This made me really sad, it's breeding at it's very worst sadly :(

I look forward to hearing news of this poor lady and so pleased that your rescue will be giving her a chance at a nice relaxed wonderful life. Thank you

That poor girl. It disgusts me how people use sows for breeding and then get rid of them.

Just imagine that as your own life! Pregnant non stop then thrown away or killed! People need to think of that saying

Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.

Can't remember the non religious version of that saying but same thing.

and this is exactly why we are all pro rescue!

:( poor little Lavender, thank god the vets had some sense to contact you, I'm not sure all of them would. Don't worry little girl you will now have a lovely home where you will be spoilt rotten!

That's disgraceful :)>>>
Thank god the vet had better ideas and Lavendar is now safe :)
Poor little thing, hope she has a speedy recovery and send hugs :rose

Thank goodness for good vets like yours who see guinea pigs as worth saving and not disposable animals as the breeder clearly did. Looking forward to seeing a picture of Lavender, hope she finds a lovely retirement home as soon as she's well enough.

Fair play to the vets for putting the animals welfare first.

Some vets would have took the money and put the poor pig down.

Hope she gets better soon.

Poor little thing. Sometimes though I think people do this because they know that the vet will find a home for them, which is better than the poor little thing being left in pain.

Paula

Oh that poor little girl, why are people so cruel?

I hope she feels better soon :) xx

I'm sat here in tears reading this :(

Poor Lavender. Thank goodness she has been given a second chance at life.

Cannot wait to see pictures of her. I am thankful she is now in your caring hands x x

Aww Helen, glad she is safe and the vets contacted you and you were able to help her. A work collegue contacted Anthony about the guinea, his wife works at the vets that she came into, We passed on the info about the rescue in the hope that they would get in contact. Saved this piggies life, couldn't let her be put to sleep because she had bumblefoot.:...

So glad the vet contacted you Helen and the lovely Lavender is now safe with you and Claire. So sad that she has been treated this way - here's to a happy and safe retirement x

What a lucky escape Lavender has had, to be put to sleep probably because she is no longer useful to the breeder is just awful. I hope she makes a quick recovery

Poor Lavender, I'm sure she'll be happy and healthy fairly soon under Claire's care and attention. :laluot_29:

that is just disgusting how cruel people can be. thank goodness the vet was caring enough to save her life and send her to a rescue. I'm sure she will have a relaxing and wonderful life.

well i have to say she is the most beautiful sow i have ever met, how many guinea pigs stretchout and stick their back leg out while having a bath? well lavender does she just loved her bath so much.

she snuggled under my dressing gown nd closed her eyes and went a sleep, her condition is

slight fungal

mites,

lice,

bumble foot in front feet size of marble,

thin

she has.done nothing but eat lol

you can tell she was.kept in dirty conditions as the underside of her nails were black with dirt:(

she has now been treated for lice, mites, fungal= still needing more treatment, nails clipped, feet soaked and cream applied, and had her antibiotics,

btw she is a tri coloured teddy sow x

Claire has called me and lavendar has settled in perfectly ! She is soaking up the attention and claire has never seen a piggie enjoy a bath so much.A huge thanks to sharon and anthony rescue team fosterers who instigated the rescue x x x x and i agree with lisa jazz its the worst type of breeder.

All I can say is thankgoodness for people like you two, sadly people never cease to disgust me recently :(
I'm sure she will go on to have a lovely relaxed and happy life now she is in good hands.
Btwm she sounds like a stunner too, i love teddies x)

That is just awful! I can't believe that people think that once a pet cannot do something anymore, it should be gotten rid of.
Mario and Luigi say hi to Lavender, and hope that she gets better right away!

Thank goodness the vets contacted you. It never fails to amaze or anger me at how people can be so cruel. She sounds a lovely girl, hope she gets well soon and can enjoy her autumn years in safety and love.
