Exams

Certainly did! Very proud of my son! Tom came home with a very impressive 4 9's, 3 8's, 1 7, 1 6 and 1 A* with distinction.:D He clearly doesn't have his mother's brains! I am one very proud Mummy at the mo!

Thank you @Merab's Slave ! There is much relief in my household at least, since last Thursday; my eldest (John) got ABC in A Levels which (with an A in his EPQ) was enough to get him into his first choice uni. Don't know how he did it as he really didn't pull his finger out until the last months of his course, but at least we can relax now 😎

So pleased results have gone well for those involved

That's really great! So you should be!

Thank you!
He is going to Nottingham Trent to do Business - they do a sandwich year which he likes the idea of. Silly noodle didn't do his open days and interviews in the lower sixth though, and had originally said he wanted to defer a year, so all the best accommodation had already been allocated by the time he started looking for a room last Thursday; we eventually found somewhere that will do okay fortunately

Sandwich years are excellent, get some contacts and key work experience within industry. Nottingham is a great city too!

That's why he thinks a sandwich year is good too.
I don't know Nottingham at all at present. Nearest I've been is probably the Notts Police HQ (in the line of work, I should add!). I hope he likes it there.

:))

It is a nice city, very vibrant a great place to be a student I would think. Castle awesome too and for geeks like me a board game cafe :))

congratulations peeps :bronco:
no hope for me - i dont even understand the grading or year systems now, let alone the exam result markings LOL!:stu:
I'm guessing 9's & 8's are good? GSCE - A&B equivalents maybe?

whats an EPQ & sandwhich years:hmm: sorry i'm dim!

.........But i just know you're all very clever to have passed Well done  good luck in your next steps wherever they may take you.xx

@GPTV EPQ is Extended Project Qualification. Some schools get their students to do them instead of a 4th A level. The student picks a subject related to one or more of their A Levels and has to organise their research themselves, write it up and show it to teachers and parents. My son did his on the D-Day landings and the failure to take Caen on the first day.
A sandwich year is when the student spends a year, usually "sandwiched" between the second and third years of their course, working in a field related to what they are studying.

9 is like A* with distinction, 8 is A*, 7 is A, 6 is a B, 5 is a high C, 4 is a low C etc. Basically if you get a 4 and above you have done very well as you don't have to retake.

Thank you!

Sounds like a good course. Nottingham is a lovely city set in a beautiful part of the country too.

I’m having a silent chuckle here @Qualcast&Flymo as we could have had our lads on the same course at NTU:lol!:. Twin 2 loved NTU Business school and had it as his insurance. However, as usual he managed to surpass all our expectations and beat his predictions and even to beat his offer at his firm choice so he’s off to Liverpool instead. How funny would it have been if they’d both been on the same course together! Twin 1 by the way is off to do mechanical engineering at MMU. And the accommodation there is bankrupting!
