saw these today but as they are quite expensive thought id post on here before getting any! has anyone tried these? :)

i was thinking of trying these too when i get my boys (whenever that'll be!) so i'm intrigued as wellrolleyes

Two of mine don't like them - they are just left as I put them in. Mind you they also have lots of hay plus their nuggets because I'm not sure about changing them over.

The other 3 love them, but they are very expensive for what they are so they are just a monthly treat as such - I still give them their hay.

They do make the room smell nice though drool

Yup - mine love it - but I'm only going to get them as a treat; when travelling; or when OH is looking after them overnight. That way he can't overfeed them! (Following experience of him using half a sack in two nights and the piggies were wading in it when I got back). It is v expensive, but fun for them, hence the treat bit.

i bought a box recently and have given them as treats, all my pigs love them and they disappear very quickly (usually put two in at a time between six pigs and they all gather round them and it's gone before you know it). they are expensive for what they are i guess and i don't think i could afford for the pigs to change over from pellets to them but they've been very well recieved as a treat! there are four in a box by the way, i wasn't sure how many you got as i may be blind but i couldn't see anywhere on it x

Thanks everyone :) think i will invest next time i go but will deffo only be a treat! spoilt piggies rolleyes

gave one to my boys last night, they loved it, a little disappointed when i told them it was just as a treat not a permanent thing though.

I thought they looked really great when i saw them, i may use them as a treat like said above, it's such a shame there so expensive, if they were on offer i may buy them though (:

If I were to feed these I would only give them as a treat. I personally feel that not only is hay a vital part of a piggy's diet, being able to forage in it is what guinea pigs are all about! It worries me that people who are new to piggies might take the Excel details as gospel i.e. they state these are a complete food and no need for messy hay bales, not the right message to be sending out in my opinion, so I for one will be sticking to my pellets and messy meadow hay!:)

I brought a box to try as I had a voucher from the PetPlan Insurance magazine. I haven't tried them on my piggies yet.

I am a bit worried that it says "portion controlled". All piggies are different (just like us hoomans) so how do they measure a portion. I am going to break them up a little, and use them only as a treat.

I think I prefer mix and vegetable, and plenty of hay.

This! Even if I only had two piggies I'd never switch them over to this 'revolutionary' food as their main diet. Despite the fact that I personally think pellets and being able to pick through piles of hay is healthier for them, seeing the amount of fun my pigs have when I throw a massive pile of hay in with them is amazing. No one should take that off a piggy!

1kg of this stuff lasts the average pig (not a pair, then!) a week. £7 per week per piggy? £7 per week just about pays for pellets and hay for all twenty of my piggies. The price of this food is insane when you multiply it by two or four piggies, let alone twenty...

The shop I get my pet feed from only sells pet supplies. The shop is in the centre of town and is usually very busy. The owner is very approachable and I spoke to him about the cubes and he said that piggy owners were sticking to what was more affordable, and possibly more suitable. The boxes he had were originally priced at £7.99, but after 2 weeks knocked down to £5.99. He said not a single box had sold in the two weeks. I had a £1 voucher so got them for £4.99. He also said that he was worried that some piggy owners may be confused and use these as " holiday" feeding blocks, and leave their pigs unattended.

I don't know about the cubes but mine LOVE the nuggets with blackcurrant and oregano! I have to mix them with the ordinary Excel nuggets otherwise they'd be fat!

My lot love these and they smell lush! Too expensive for the amount of piggies i have, and i agree they need lose hay to forage and dig. Definatly be buying the odd box for a treat.

x.

I managed to get some for £6 today, so will be trying them (or rather the piggies will!) later today as a treat, I may attempt to cut one in half if that's possible. We were away last night & although we didn't leave yesterday until nearly midday after all my fussing over them & filling their C & C with hay, pellets etc, when we got back today there was nothing left, so for the very very rare night away I thought these would last a few hours after they had finished all the hay & pellets left with them.

I hate leaving them & worried until we got back today, I really missed them & was so glad to get back lol :)

I bought my girls some last week and my girls loved them. Agree with the rest of you that these are just good for treats. Even if they were alright to give to your pigs instead of hay and pellets they're so expensive and supposed to last a week? the one i gave my girls didnt last three days and thats with their regular hay and pellets too.

Bought twice- conclusion they're rubbish. Pigs will eat them dont seem overly thrilled unlike when you've give them fresh hay.

I bought some yesterday and my girls haven't touched them, maybe because they have hay already in their cage. If they don't eat them, I'll be donating them.

My pigs love them. My vet gave me some free samples and they were hoovered up like there was no tomorrow! I am thinking of getting them some when they food we currently have runs out.

I bought these becasue they were reduced. Should have saved my money and bought some nice hay. The piggies had a sniff at them, but they remain untouched. Not a treat for them at all! :(

I got these on offer at £6 for a box.

I gave them to my pigs as a "treat" and they were enthusiastic to begin with, but they soon got bored and went back to munching their pellets and hay!

I'd get them again, maybe next time they're on offer or something, just to add a bit of variety, but I certainly wouldn't ever feed them as the sole food as they're intended!
