My two guinea pigs have been scratching themselves very frequently along with lots of cleaning towards their coats, I have sprayed both of them with Mite And Mange spray but it doesn't seem to be helping anything, their environment is very clean as well. They also have been eating their poop more than usual, please help if you have any advice.

Poop eating is perfectly normal, they can't eat too many! If they are scratching excessively please speak to a vet rather than using home treatment sprays, often over the counter products are not very effective at all- a vet prescribed ivermectin spot-on is what is usually effective for mites, but the vet must confirm that this is the reason for the scratching first then prescribe the correct dose!

thank you!

:agr: Home treatments are often wide of the mark, since you need to firstly correctly diagnose a problem in order to treat it, and then they are usually very low strength (for obvious reasons since they are being sold without a vets licence or approval), so even if you are treating the correct problem, the strength is usually insufficient to make a difference. So it’s best to get a vet to diagnose and treat. If you have mange mites you will need several rounds of proper strength treatment at regular intervals.
