Hello guys,

I have very exciting news and I am really excited (obviously).
Anyway I have told a few of you guys how much I love long-haired guinea pigs and how much I would love one. So I recently found out that there was one for adoption and I have decided that I am ready to adopt her. I think it is two weeks till I can bring her home. Anyway I am still thinking of names and all I have is Luna and Trixie which I like. I was wondering if anyone had any names they could share. I don't have a picture and won't till she comes home. Thanks

I also forgot to add that I'm not so sure about food names. I have a Cookie and a Peaches so I think I will go with a really name but you guys can still suggest any names. Please don't suggest the names Cookie, Beano, Peaches and Smudge as those are the names of my pigs at the moment. Thanks

I'm not to sure the picture was pretty bad and they didn't have a discribtion for the colours but I'm thinking a tricoloured with black and brown but I'm sorry if that is a bit wrong.

I also like the name Suzie. It just came to my head and I really like it.

I hope the bonding goes well :)
Choosing names is always exciting!
Choosing names is always hard but it also depends with the pig. For example Cookie and Beano didn't have names for two weeks after I got them and with Peaches I knew that it was his name and I couldn't change it. And Smudge came with her name and it didn't feel right to change it.

Oh how exciting :) I love the name Luna, I always thought it would be beautiful for a pet.

Aww some lovely names suggested. I'm a bit perplexed as to how Oreo is more of a boys name... I kind of see biscuits as gender neutral :))

So far we have the names:
Luna
Trixie
Matilda
Oreo
Coco
Fudge
Maisie
Gracie
Poppy
Penny
Suzie

What are your favourite names? So far I like Luna, Suzie and Matilda.

I like the name Suzie, but then I had a Suzie of my own- my avatar. I also like Maisie. Or how about Marcie?

How exciting! I love long-haired pigs too! It's hard to come up with names sight unseen... sometimes you have to see the piggie first! I've always delegated the names to my kids (I do hold onto veto power, though... my youngest wanted to name Sundae 'Buttface' and my son wanted to name Frenzy 'X-Wing Fighter!' I figure I take them to the vet so I have to be seen in public with these critters, so I had better like the name!)

I kind of like theme naming... when I had hedgehogs, they were all named after spiky plants, so we had Hawthorne, Bramble, and Thistle. If we had decided to get another hedgehog I would have had Primrose (girl) or Briar (boy.) I let the kids name the pigs and somehow the kids have decided that they should have first and middle names, so thus far we've had:

Linney Cupcake (Linney after the guinea pig in WonderPets... not sure about Cupcake!)
Frenzy Popcorn (Frenzy is a Transformer and popcorn because she was very exuberant!)
Sundae Vanilla (my daughter though she looked like an ice cream sundae- white, caramel color, and 'cherry eyes.') Vanilla was a runner-up name that got tacked onto the end.
Hadley Cupcake Fluffypants (my kids are getting older and are sci-fi/horror fans... Hadley is named after the colony called Hadley's Hope in the movie Aliens. Cupcake got used again in honor of Linney. Fluffypants got added because, obviously, she has humorously fluffy legs. They are really memorable. It would be a crime not to acknowledge them in some way!)

Some of our runner up names that we didn't use... I wanted to name them after something South American, due to the fact that it's where guinea pigs originate. I suggested Lima or Inca for Sundae but got vetoed. My mom wanted to name our original pair Machu and Picchu. Our runner up names for Hadley were either Ripley or Wesker (Ripley as a more obvious Alien nod, Wesker as he's one of the villains in the Resident Evil games that my kids like.) I also once say an adorable pig in a store with a black spot over one eye like a pirate eye-patch and decided if I ever owned a pig that looked like that, I would need to name it Cavy Jones! LOL!

Aww. I think your piggy names are lovely. And of course the hedgehogs have great names. Buttface is a great name! Though the pig must have been embarrassed at that!

Interesting you should mention Luna; several years back, I had a Peruvian piggy and that was HIS name. Actually, "Luna Azul," which is "Blue Moon" in Spanish, as he was a very unusual looking piggy. (I like both Luna and Trixie as names!)

My first 2 pigs had fairly "normal" names, but after that, I started with Inca or Spanish names. Got to where, when I'd call the vet to schedule an appointment for a new pig, they'd say, "OK, what is THIS ones' name?" On one pig, when I said "Pachacutec Yupanqui," I heard this LONG pause on the phone; that is when I told them "Pacha will do just fine" (Pachacutec Yupanqui was the greatest of the Inca emperors and the name means something like Unique Earthshaker.) Macchu and Picchu is a great combo!
