As you may know I lost my beautiful Caramel a couple of weeks ago and have been heartbroken ever since. I am chronically ill and suffer badly with pain and seeing her little face every morning made me feel such joy.

My mum has spoken with a skinny pig breeder and has arranged for me to have two baby sows! I am so excited and can’t wait to meet my babies. I had no clue I could get any skinny pigs as I am too far away from any good breeders but it turns out you can use a courier! I am using a guinea pig teleport courier and they will be arriving next week.

I know that I will still be heartbroken but I hope that these two girls will help fill the hole Caramel left in my heart. 💕

Congratulations! When will they be coming home? Can I ask, are there no rescues near you?

Hi :) they should be here Friday or next weekend. They are no rescues but I always adopt from the pets at home adoption section- all of my other furries are adoptions. I cannot find a skinny pig up for adoption hence why I decided to go with a good breeder :)

Yes most rescues do not rehome skinnies unless it's to adopters that they are already aware of and they are confident they have previous experience of skinnies as they do require more care than their furry friends. They certainly never advertise skinnies. We look forward to seeing pictures when they arrive

Definitely! My Branston requires a lot more care. Constant heat monitoring through a room thermometer. Heat snuggle pads for nights. Soft cuddle cups. Skin products in case of skin issues such as gorgeous Guineas oil. Extra veggies (vitamin c)and food and LOTS more poops lol. They are brilliant and beautiful creatures but definitely not for people who don’t research caring for them and think they are just like a furry piggie. My ladies will have a 160cm cage with snuggle sacks, snuggle safe heat mats all ready for them.

How exciting, they sound like they will be well and truly spoiled!

You’re more than prepared so they’re going to be living the life of Riley 😁

One of my local petshops sells skinny pigs from time to time, I doubt they check whoever is buying has experience, they are on sale for £200 each, so may put off impulse buyers, Not if they are wealthy though

Look forward to seeing your baby hippos :) as advise from a fellow skinny pig owner all I can say is... they are ALWAYS hungry, and they poop and especially PEE LOADS so you need at least 3 sets of their fleecy bedding. Sometimes it doesnt last 24 hours between washes, even the most absorbant luxury fleecy tunnels and houses get soaked an filled with wet poops just overnight... buy 9 fleecy hideys just to be on the safe side! And be prepared to keep your house warmer than you might like it yourself...

Hi guys so the breeder sent me a message saying that one of the little ones has a cut under the chin, she has said she will keep her another week if I would like to heal but I was wondering what you guys think? I think I can manage it at home and I have a free vet check on Monday anyway. Any opinions?

oow that’s a bit swollen, poor little mite x It’s up to you really, if you have the experience, do you know exactly what it is?

I have dealt with guinea pig scratches and cuts before with my other piggies. She is eating well and has no other worries. The side view definitely makes me feel abit better but she will be going to be the vets on Monday or possibly Saturday if I’m not happy. I usually use a mixture of salt and warm water for wounds.

The lady isn’t sure

I think if the breeder is planning to take the piggy to the vet you might wait, and ask which vet so the records can be transferred to your own vet later. If she is planning to just home treat I would say bring the piggies home and take the injured one to the vet- that looks sore and quite deep and quite swollen and in a tricky place if it later turns into an abscess, its a bit more than a scratch- if that was my piggy I would have them at the vet within 24 hours and be asking about antibiotics to stop any potential infection x

Thank you,
I get them tomorrow night so will book them in for Saturday morning.

Yes, it’s always better to be on the safe side, it does look a little more than a scratch to me. Hope Your little one is alright x

So the babies just arrived and they are absolutely tiny! A little worried but they weigh 316g and 330g each. One of the little girls is asleep in the cuddle cup with her eyes closed which is worrying me as we only just got her. The cut on the other girls chin looks good though.

How old are they? When I got Poppy she was small for her age and at 6 weeks weight 269g but now at 1 year and 5 months she's weighing in at almost 1300g and is a huge lady!
