We've had a pretty rubbish time of it lately with poorly piggies, and losing three to the Rainbow Bridge this year, but I always try to remember the happiness the piggies bless me with, rather than the sadness I feel when they leave.
We recently adopted three girls from Woodgreen: Peri, Martha, and Rose. Martha and Rose are extremely skittish, but all three girls are making wonderful progress! I'm absolutely delighted at how far they have come already, and while they still have a little way to go, I have no doubt that they'll soon be as confident and relaxed as my other pigs.
When we went to meet the girls, there was a lovely lad called Eric in the run next to us, who had a little chat with us while we cuddled the girls (my Dad doesn't a very uncanny piggy whistle, which Eric responded to!). He had been struggling to find a male companion, and his latest bonding attempt had left him with some very nasty injuries which he was recovering from.
I was lucky enough to have a little cuddle with Eric before we left and, well...it was love at first sight!
We have reserved Eric while we make some refurbishments to our hutches and runs, and so long as introductions go well (if everyone could keep their fingers and piggy toes crossed for us, that'd be great!) he'll be coming to live with us. I really, really, really hope that my girls accept him, as he really is a lovely boy.
I've never had a herd with a boar in before, so it will be a new experience for me!
