Kithri
New Born Pup
I'm so excited! My husband and I have been considering adding two more piggies to our current pair, sisters Eleanor and Lucy. About a week-and-a-half ago, we boarded them for a couple nights at the sanctuary where we adopted them, and I glimpsed a pair of silkies in the cage above them: one with golden and white fur named Marigold, and one with long, black fur named Elvira (of course!). I was immediately taken by them, and was drawn still further to them when we picked up Eleanor and Lucy a couple days later. The following Sunday, we made an appointment to meet them!
We learned that Elvira and Marigold are from Florida where, apparently, there is a lot of demand for silkies to be bred for shows. E&M weren't abandoned, per se, but they were the last pair left, and so they were transferred up to the shelter here in Tennessee since the woman caring for them already had about twelve pigs she was looking after. I'm not sure how long ago this was, but the owner of the shelter said they had been there the longest out of their other pigs, since none of the potential adopters wanted the extra maintenance that comes with silkies. Whereas my reaction was, "Oh, my God! Silkies! Must have!"
Luckily, they seemed to get along great at the initial meeting with Eleanor and Lucy, and we absolutely fell in love with them when we finally met them face-to-face! Now all that's needed is expanding the cage, buying new bedding, water bottles, and everything! I can't post pictures at the moment (I'm at work, shhh!), but I will soon! I'm so excited to bring them home!
