On Friday Morgan had 4 babies (unplanned, think it happened when they were looked after by a friend whilst we were on holiday{:|) and lots of her fur fell out and her skin looked sore:( so she had a trip to the vet and she has mites apparently this is quite common after giving birth because of stress, so has had an injection and needs another one.
Gerty was taken to the vets today to be neutered and apparently he is feeling quite sorry for himself:(, is it normal for them not to have a check up or be given any pain killers or antibiotics?
One of the babies was born with somthing wrong with her eye and it looks as if she has no bit that surrounds the eye with no fur on on her upper eye so fur is poking into it and the eye looks kind of cloudy:( so she needs a trip to the vet.
On the up side my mum says Morgan is looking better now, Gerty's opp. went fine and all babies were putting on weight.:)
I just wish I could be at home with them all all I had was a quick visit on Saturday night
 
The babies are 1 boy and 3 girls. My mum has named them all and the boy is called Smudge. The girl with the funny eye is called Binky and my mum has decided to definatly keep her and the other two girls are Dot and Dash. I weighed them when I went home and they ranged from 98g to 108g
 
my Smudgie had 'the op' in August & he wasn't given painkillers or antibiotics either I was also told he wouldn't need a follow-up apointment but I did take him after 4wks as his disposable stitches were still in place.The vet said they would dissapear eventually & they have, apparently it would be too stressful for smudgie to have them removed. He was absolutly fine after his op. I let him see his sister about an hour after he got home & he tried to mount her!They are both together again now & doing fine he still waggles his bum & purrs at her but doesn't try to mount her anymore.
 
My Ruby had the snip almost a fortnight ago he had been given an injection of painkiller at the vet but needed nothing further, he too has dissolveable stitches and the vet told me they can take up to six weeks to go

When I had my boars neutered I wasn't given any antibiotics or painkillers, but I seem to remember that they had been given a painkiller before they came home. I had a check up after a couple of days and then again in a week or so. All my boars were fine after the operation, a bit sleepy for a day or so, but only a little bit.

As regards the baby with the eye problem. You might find that he or she has "Entropion" - the in-turning of the eyelid causing the eyelashes to rub against the cornea. It will make the eye look cloudy. The condition usually corrects itself within 14 days but you might need a suitable antibiotic eye preparation to relieve the condition until it does get better. This condition is particularly common in the Texel breed, but I had this in Satins many years ago. I used to gently massage the eyelashes upwards (as it was the top eyelid) on a regular basis and did have cream from the vet to help prevent infection.

It might be this that your piggy has, but of course it could be something else.
 
As neutering is an operation just like any other, never mind how "routine" it might be nowadays, any good vet should ask to see the piggy again for a follow up.

Our vet asked us to look out for the obvious things like

"is the piggy looking like he is nibbling or scratching on the stitches"
"is the area looking red or swollen"
"is there any discharge around the stitches"

and to come straight back in any of those are the case.

We were told to come back in after a week anyway, just to make sure. It was a five minute job - 4 minutes sitting in the waiting room, one minute to check and say goodbye again, as everything was fine.

But I think any responsible vet would ask to see an animal again after they operated on it.
 
Thanks Goldie, that sounds like it might be that wrong with Binky's eye however she is a peruvian x sheltie, I'm sure the vet will be able to tell us for definate when they look at it.
