A member has come up with what I think is a fantastic idea. We should have a list of people who are experienced in syringe feeding/medicating so that we can point members needing help, in the direction of someone who could assist them.

Therefore, if you have experience of syringe feeding and you are willing to either show someone how to do it, or maybe care for their guinea pig while they are at work, or maybe for longer periods, please can you send me your details. Just name and phone no and general area where you are based will be ok, because further details can be discussed when someone makes contact.

Your details won't need to placed on the public forum, but I could hold the list and give out the contact info when needed.

So often vets send clients away with a packet of recovery food and a syringe, not giving any instruction on the amount needed to be fed, or any information on how to syringe feed. Having someone in your area who could assist would be such a help.

Add me to the list Debbie - you have all my details anyway! :))

I think its a fab idea! I will send you a message.

And also if anyone wanted to point anyone my way, i am happy for people to contact me via PM also. I am in Norwich, Norfolk and would be happy to help anybody in need of advice etc. xx

Great idea, my details are with the piggybank already, add me to the list please.

Think is a fantastic idea Debbie, add our details to the list. Will pop our details on a pm to you... x

Brilliant idea, I'm not sure if you already have my details Debbie but I will pm you.

Woo hoo, look at you go, Debbie :(|) As you know I'm in N. Ireland, but I don't have much experience, so if there's someone from my area with more experience that would be great, but if not then I'm happy to do what I can, but it would probably be best if it was under strict instruction from one of you lot, just in case I got something wrong :.... I'm volunteering because I don't think there are many of us in N.I. but I'd be happy to be proved wrong -c
It's probably time I pm'd you my details anyhow.

good idea Debbie,
if anyone lives near Crawley or would like to come down on a saturday and learn how to syringe feed there are 30 piggies here who all would be willing guinea pigs (get it!)

I will pm you Debbie

I also recently put my name in the piggy bank. Stella gets furosemide daily :)

Done a range of small and furries over the years, but I do still have the scars from the degu with gastric stasis (was worth it as he's still running around and mapping a menance of himself).

Oh and I'm a whizz with a coffee grinder, pellets and alfalfa hay.

Brill idea! I'm not greatly experienced with syringes as over the years I've been incredibly fortunate not to experience many illnesses so it would be a comfort to know there could be someone in my area to turn to for help :)

I've got experience with syringe feeding, fed Artie for eight weeks and Percy-Roo for six weeks, and Maise,May and Dilly for three months. I don't know whether this is alot of experience or not?

With my piggles I’ve experienced mange mites, eye infections, URI’s, issues after neutering and issues with not eating.

I've also administered Baytril and Metcam, and eye drops. I can also sex piggies, and I have a lot of experience with boars, impaction, behaviour and cleaning scent glands and neutering.

Will be more than happy to help anyone in the North East, Middlesbrough/ Cleveland area. I have a spare indoor cage and outdoor hutch too if anyone needs emergency safe knowledgable place for their piggie. :)

I am getting loads of replies which is great. However, I can't take the credit for coming up with this wonderful idea. It was this lady! Thank you so much Mary xx

By the way, I don't think you have pm'd me your details x

Fab idea! You can add me to the list, I'm in West Midlands and have (unfortunately) loads of experience with syringe feeding ;)

This is such a wonderful idea and I wish it had been around a month ago! I was so frightened by the lack of advice and support I got from my local vet. Thankfully a cavy savvy one gave me some pointers and showed me how its done. But its still quite daunting.

Unfortunately I am unable to join at the moment but do have plenty of experience syringing food, medicine and water.

Maybe it would be worth putting this with the Piggy Bank and expanding the help they can offer. We've seen how fast they can react for animals in need already. And many who want to help appear to be part of the piggy bank already. Just a thought.

I love this idea, I remember having to syringe feed for the first time - if it hadn't been for Glynis' written instructions and Flintstones' video, I would have been sunk! mallethead

I don't have enough experience and confidence to volunteer myself but think it is a brilliant idea! :)

It's a brilliant idea! I've sent my details over. I'm by no means the most experienced syringe feeder but as I think Abi_nurse will vouch, Manny was a particularly reluctant patient and I got to grips with feeding/giving medicine to him, so happy to help wherever I can xx

Well if there's a piggie in Victoria near to me i'd help or show the owner how to syringe feed :)
Pop me down as an 'over the pond helper' thanks love

This is a fab idea. I have had to feed Treacle via syringe for a week now. I don't have much experience but could certainly do with the help if I need it in future. The advice on here has been priceless I have to say. So a big thank you to all.

I don't have much piggy experience, but I have given my fair share of oral syringe medication to my two pigs for their ringworm. Once a day for 3-4 weeks. I am always willing to help out in anyway I can.
