Hi All,

As you know I am fostering Choccy from Helen and Graham, we have just noticed that he has a extra digit on his right back foot. It is on the back of the heel, it's not causing him any problems. Extra digits don't have to be removed do they? But I wondered would it fall off on its own? He is around 8 months old.

I thought I'd ask as I've not had any experience with extra digits! Just makes him more special! :D

Sorry Louise I should have mentioned this to you - it totally escaped me - he has managed fine with it. I have seen this before with piggies and it seems not to bother them at all. It's just a case of keeping an eye on it that's all.

Helen.

Thanks Helen, just pmmed you! At first we thought he had a deformed foot but then I realised there should only be 3 nails on the back and he has 4. It's not troubling him as you say. :)

As long as its not causing him any problems, you dont have to do a thing...just pop him to the vet if you notice him walking strangely, or it looks flaired :smitten:

Thanks Cherry, will put him in the run later and see how he goes, he seems fine though! :)

TR I agree he is a special pig I'm trying not to get attached! ::) Maybe I'm not cut out to rescue...haha (just kidding!)

My Huxley has an extra digit, it's attached by a thin bit of skin, it's never caused him any probs & he'll be 3 in may :)

Thanks Niki, Choccy can walk normally and it doesn't cause him any problems. It's actually attached very securly and just looks like an extra toe. :)

Ahhh, Choccy just gets more and more cuter the more I hear about him, now he has an extra digit :smitten: just more of him to love! :D

We had a Pig called Sooty who had an extra toe on his back leg, it never bothered him but we did have it taken off while he was having a GA to sort his abscess/teeth out. By this time the nail had curled round so much that it was difficult to trim. I would not have had the toe taken off but he was being knocked out anyway.

My cousin's daughter was born with extra digits but they fell off which is why I thought it may happen in Choccy's case but it is firmly fixed! ;D

Julie, I'm going to keep you and Marty posted on how he goes next to the pigs. I tried him next to Sunshine but Twinkle howled like a baby and missed his one time buddy! (Fingers crossed I can rebond them!) Maybe Twinkle wasn't the bad one after all! ::)

He is next to Pudsey and Eccles at the moment and doesn't really care! :D

LOL Hels, I know, every time I see him or a thread about him I think..."come to meeeeee" ;D
Awww, Marty showed my the PMs to you Louise we'd love to hear how he gets on :smitten:

Will keep you posted Julie, I must say that Emily is taken with him but she knows we are only taking care of him for a little while. I think I'll teach her about rescue over the weekend so she understands what I'm trying to do.

:)
