Hello again everyone, I feel like I’m on here constantly asking questions😅 having four piggies bring lots questions and challenges that’s for sure! Anyways, one of the boys I recently adopted lives in a cage by himself because he cannot seem to get along with anyone else (he bites, chatters, sprays, and just upsets the other two pigs), we are eventually going to try him with another pig but that’s a whole other story! Anyways, since he has to be in a cage by himself and cannot be out during any of the others playtime, Cookie gets upset and chews the bars. I’ve posted about this before and people said it was a normal behavior which I definitely feel that it is, but he’s chewing to the point where his fur seems to be falling out in the spot that rubs against the bars while he chews. I don’t have another option for his cage because the only other one I have available is one that we already tried for him and he got his head stuck in the bars while trying to get out. I’ve attached a picture of what seems to be happening on his nose. Sorry it isn’t the best, but Cookie was not very willing to be photographed🙄 Hopefully someone can offer some advice here😅 I’m beyond grateful that this exists and for all of you piggy parents who have been helping me out with these crazy boys, caring for piggies is quite an experience! 9230DED8-BE7A-4D1C-80BF-ABF93ED53A3F.jpeg

in pet stores they have things for him sharpening his gnasher tooth! important and some like to do it more than others.. check Amazon too…ive been raising g pigs for 12 years, 5 boys, 1 girl…love them , get all to 5 plus years, oldest 8.5 but i get so attached so on last 2 and retiring ! I am thinking …I had one also, would not share his home, so I had him in own cage except family meal( large plate , 4 boys eating lettuce) but once done he had to go back or he’d start acting up🥴loveable and loved to be held! Yes, cage right next to 3 others a must and he did the same thing…

Bar chewing in a single piggy is something which occurs. He may even do it if/when he does live with another piggy as some are just bar chewers, but rubbing off the hair is one consequence of that. Other than changing the cage or covering the bars while the others are having their floor time (if that is the only time he does if), there is not a whole lot you can do

Toys for chewing him doesnt sharpen their incisors. Incisors are self sharpening and kept in check by the appropriate action of the molars (which are kept in check by chewing hay and grass).

This little piggy is quite the handful😅 I covered the bars with a blanket in a way that he cannot get to them without unlocking the cage from the outside. Hopefully that will slow him down, it seems to be helping. He also has tons of hay that he seems to enjoy munching away on all throughout the day. And of course he has toys in his cage that he can chew on when he wants but that’s not very often. I will continue to monitor the situation and try some different ways of slowing this hair loss down😊 Thanks for your help☺️💗
