Hello, just looking for any advice or shared experiences, my sow Ophi is 6.5 and was spayed 2 months ago, she has recovered really well. She did however have an ulcer over her eye not long after, vet said was due to having eye shut/not blinking during op.
Cleared up with meds, but has now come back again. Vet showed a small white pinprick in her eye, which showed up with the dye they put in. She is back on pain, anti-inflammatory and antibiotics, I have now noticed her right foot has swelled up, I do not know if this is bumblefoot, her cage is very large and changed twice a day with fleece pads, but I'm worried she is not moving as much due to age and I noticed her doing some bunny hops yesterday.ans struggling with her hay tray (have now put small ramp in) I am soaking foot in epsom once a day and keeping cage extra clean. I am going to call vets again tomorrow for foot. They also suggested a referral to an eye clinic, have others had any experiences like this in an elderly pig?

No experience like that with eyes, but bunny hops with older guineas, yes. Just sending you my support. The health experts on the forum will get back to you with better info than I can give.

Hi

A pin prick in the eye is a sign of very small perforation of the cornea, which should heal with normal medication. I would consider getting extra carbomer based eye gel. It is not a medication but it can contribute towards keeping the eye hydrated and more comfortable. The gel is easier to apply and is longer lasting compared to when you use plain eye drops. It is one of these things is useful to have at home and handy.

The swollen foot unfortunately needs to be seen. It could be bumblefoot. Older piggies with decreased mobility and a no longer optimal blood circulation/more brittle/weakened immune system are more prone to it.
