So we now have Parkin and Cyclops together, and things seem to be going fairly well on the making friends front so Cyclops is staying!

The issue I have is that he was born with one eye (so I'm told). This doesn't seem to bother him, but, being graphic, there is a regular amount of gunk which comes from where his eye should be. I think that it is just the eyeball that is missing, and the gunk is actually the normal fluid that would lubricate it, if it was there. I am currently cleaning it with warm water every day - there is quite a build up.

Does anyone have any experience of this type of condition and whether there are any risks or other things that I might need to watch out for? Cyclops is in good health, weighs 620g, is about 5 months old (could be up to 8 ). Is there an increased risk of infection in the eye socket? Is this weeping normal? Are there any indicating signs that I should look out for to cause a quick vet trip?

Any tips welcome! It would be good to be a bit more informed so that I know what questions to ask the vet. I am also thinking that a vet check would be a good idea even though he is in good health. Anyone got a view on that?

Thx
K

Hello,

It might be worth getting in touch with Carol, she has a permanent resident with one eye. I think I remember her saying she does bathe it from time to time.

hi, I have a piggy with only one eye and i clean out his eye almost daily. (sometimes Butter does it for me)

I usually use my fingernail to pull the gunk out, although the vet said a moist cotton bud, the fussy little doesnt like them, i cant say antyhing i'm not a fan of cotton wool either.

when i him neutered i asked the vet about it and the only advice they had was clean it daily, there shouldn't be any problems.

I'm not sure if she's home or not yet but I have spoke to her and all is going well :). I can ask her if you'd prefer?
