Eye drops for hay poke?

Hi everyone! I’ve been reading up a lot about hay pokes and although Eddie has never had one, I thought it would be a good idea to get some eye drops in case he does get one. I wanted your guy’s opinion if this is suitable for him?

If your piggy was to get a haypoke, then you need to go to the vet and get prescribed eye drops containing an antibiotic. The vet would also put a dye in the eye look under fluorescent light to check the extent of the damage and look for any ulceration. A haypoke is not something you can treat at home yourself and is considered an emergency requiring vet treatment as soon as possible.
Please don’t put such a product in the picture in to your piggy’s eyes

I would say that if your piggies ever get hay poke it's best to take them to a vet (general vets can also see them for eyes) and have them prescribe eye drops for treatment.

I agree that if your piggy ever does get a hay poke, a vet visit would be needed who would prescribe the appropriate treatment

Yes often with haypoke there may be a bit of hay left in the eye that the vet needs to remove, or damage to the eye that only shows up with the special dye the vets use... I've had hay stuck in my own eye, twice, and both times I couldnt wash it out with over the counter eyedrops and have had to go to the eye clinic and get a doctor to take it out and prescribe antibiotic drops for the injured eye!

Erm... I eat a lot of hay? Nothing to do with having too many guinea pigs of course lol
I think possibly its because my eyes are very dry and prone to allergies, anything that goes in my eyes stays there, and I'm always rubbing them without noticing! Usually with hay hands...

Meg had baaaaad haypoke and was prescribed Chloramphenicol eye drops 3 times daily for 7 days. It didn't clear up. I took her to another vet (long story) and she was prescribed Remend 3 times daily 10 days later. I was also putting in Visco Tears 3 times daily to help keep her eye hydrated. In the end I was putting in all three x 3 daily which was 9 eyedrops per day! I took 5 weeks to make her eye better. You must always visit a vet for haypoke and not treat at home or you risk losing the eye.
