Eye infection quarantine?

Hi all,

I have 3 piggies, 5 days ago one of them started with a bit inflamated and red eye I immediately called the vet and they gave us antibiotics in gel for a week, she got healthy very fast, but now the other 2 are starting to show the same symptoms ( very very mild) I will of course start the treatment right away!

My question is did I do wrong to put the sick piggie in the cage with the others? (They are in fleece)

Should I know separate the other 2 from the completely healthy one?

No you didn’t do wrong and we wouldn’t advise that you separate them now either.

We don’t advise separating piggies when one is unwell.
Obviously some conditions are contagious but it is often the case that by the time you see symptoms in one piggy, separating at that point can be futile - the cross contamination to the others has already happened.

Separating causes upset amongst them, the stress can lower the immune system and separation can also mean they refuse to go back together again.

If you haven’t already, please discuss treatment for the other two with the vet.
