Roxy has quite a bad eye infection. I've booked her in to the vets for tomorrow, but I just wanted to know some things ... I think (hope) that they're reasonable questions to be asking, if some of you have experienced this.

1) I patted her eyes with a clean kitchen towel that had been dipped in cooled saline solution. This is okay to do, right? I just want to ease it.

2) I have read about an eye solution, beginning with T ... can't remember the name, but is it worth getting?

3) She is sleeping a lot more, just suddenly dropping her head and sleeping. Do you think this is unrelated?

4) How much am I looking at in vets bills? I am willing to pay whatever, it's just so I know how much - for those of you that have dealt with eye infections. I think she has conjunctivitis.

Thank you.

She keeps chewing really loudly, it's not a normal chewing it's like an agitated chewing and oh god, tomorrow's the earlier I can take her and I just feel like complete and utter **** right now I just need reassuring. Failing this, is there anybody in Manchester that has any eye stuff or anything?! I want to cry.

can you ring the vets and get advice? If you tell them its more serious they may be able to squeeze you in

My mum took her pig to the vets this week as he has bit of sticky eye, they gave her fucithalmic and it cost her £31.00 for consultation and prescription.

Good luck, and please let us know x

We've been battling on with an eye infection for about 6 weeks now with one of my boys, Ben. He has had fucithalmic twica day for 17 days, then maxitrol since 18th Jan, every time we stop the treatment the inflammation comes back again, he is starting another 2 week course of maxitrol then following straight up with hypromellose drops to keep his eye lubricated. If you check on my posts I have a photograph on of bens eye at its worst, this might be of interest to you to compare how severe your pigs eye is, apparantly bens eye was a very severe case and hopefully with the right treatment your pigs will clear up a lot quicker. My vets bills are usually £16 per consultation plus the prescription, i think eye drops are usually about £5.00. It could be that Roxy has something else going on as guinea pigs tend to get sticky eyes when they have other illnesses such as a chest infection, it could be a number of things. Hopefully some of the information about the meds here will be of use to you and i wish you all the best for a swift recovery. :) keep posting and let us know how she gets on xx
