My poorly piggy who has just recovered from dental problems and bad case of mites has now damaged his eye! Not sure how but think maybe he run into the water bottle spout. He has been to the vets and he said his eye didn't appear scratched after putting the dye in. He had antibiotic injection and painkiller and had chloramphenicol eye drops. This was Tuesday and took him back today as still not looking good. Had another injection of antibiotics and metacam jab. Have to take him back tomorrow but see some folks have been prescribes fucidin ointment, anyone know if this is better ?
Feel so sorry for poor little chap as that is all he needs after what he has been through

I think I mean fucithalmic ointment?

I used Chloramphnicol when Ellie had a hay poke a few weeks back and it worked well but ask the vet tomorrow about Fucithalmic. It can take a while for eyes to heal but mention your concerns to the vet. Is his eye ulcerated?

I am not sure, the part that was the white dot looks more yellow now and the eye underneath looks very red. It is possibly a bit less swollen but hard to tell

How long did it take for your piggy's eye to heal?

My pig had some fucithalmic recently. It's quite a good eye drop and very commonly used in most species really. It took my pigs eye about 3-4 days to heal, although his eye was very lightly scratched by a piece of hay, he also had a metecam injection (which is a pain killer) All eye injuries will vary as they all are to different degrees, similar to a scratch on your arm, the deeper the scratch the longer it will take to wound.
It's always a good idea just to tell your vet all your thoughts and worries, that way they can put your mind at rest!
Hope your piggy is feeling better soon.

Thanks, he has had the metacam injection, think his injury a bit serious poor little boy! he has been through the mill recently so seems so unfair

It took Ellie's eye about a week to heal but it was not as bad as it first looked.

Possibly the swelling has gone down a little bit, but still not good. Back to vets tomorrow am so will keep you posted. Thanks for your concern x

Does take a few days to heal, just keep a close eye on it ( no pun intended) - hope he's feeling better soon. Healing vibes. x

Is there discharge? Could have poked it with hay and got it infected?

Also worth asking about the Fucidin ( whatever it's called) if it's on your mind and you're seeing the vet. I think that's what we've usually had for eye pokes.

Just to let you all know , Morgan's eye got pretty serious and looked like it was going to go pop, Had emergency trip to vet on BH Monday and we switched to Fucidin and different antibiotic, miraculously his eye is saved , maybe a bit cloudy but he is well and eating like mad. Wished I had suggested the fucidin earlier. Would recommend to anyone else not to go with chloramphenicol as if anything made his eye worse, thanks everyone for their good wishes and advice xx
