Try to get an appointment asap it doesn't need to be a guinea vet as eyes are eyes no matter what animal I think 💐

Hi, I would have your guinea pig checked over by a vet as eye injuries, often caused by hay poke are classed as an emergency. A vet will be able to diagnose and prescribe the correct treatment while checking the eye for corneal ulcers and debris in the eye x
Thankyou I’ve booked a appointment for Tomorrow afternoon

I will thankyou I’ve been told to use hay bags to prevent hay poke is this true I’ve always just had big piles of hay in their cage ?x

No it’s not true - they can still get hay pokes. It’s just bad luck when they get poke, there is very little you can do to prevent it
Also using bags removes their ability to get into hay piles and play, thereby removing a large part of their mental stimulation and enrichment. Stay using piles of hay on the floor!

Sorry your piggy has Haypoke.
Hope it heals quickly.

Hay poke is less common than you could expect given the joy piggies find in playing in their hay.
Mine love to burrow and make nests in their hay

For any future appointments you could/should take them together 💕

Hi

I am very glad that the eye is OK. It was obviously just the red of the hut that coloured the eye but since not all injuries are visible straight away (especially when they are not yet infected), all we can do is encourage to have them see by a vet and checked with a special dye under uv light.

You can however always take a bonded pair or the best friend with you to the vet. I call those piggies 'paw holders'. They make the trip a lot less scary and stressful for the ill piggy.
For any operations you will have to ask the vet. Some welcome companions, others don't.
