If your boy keeps blinking, has got a watery eye or develops quickly spreading white/bluish gunk on the surface or inside the eye, please have him seen either today during out-of-hours opening hours (which are cheaper) or if you haven't got access to a 24 hours or out-of-hours clinic, then book him in first thing tomorrow morning.
Eyes can deteriorate very quickly but will heal much more easily the sooner they are seen and treated with antibiotic eye drops and some lubricant/hydration (please ask your vet for the second if they don't prescribe any).
Only a hands-on vet examination with a special dye under uv light can judge the nature and extent of any injury, which it is an infected surface scratch or a hay poke. Treatment for eyes is the same in all pet species, so a general vet is perfectly OK.
