Eye issue

Apologies if something similar has been posted. I am new to the site and struggling to see existing threads to check!
We have G pigs that are just under a year old. One appears to have some goo in its eye and I am not sure whether to be concerned or not. I’ve read that milky looking stuff is ok but if yellow or green or watery it is a problem. I can’t tell if it’s milky or something to be concerned about? Thanks in advance for your knowledge. These G pigs are very loved anc should anything happen to cookie

You are better off getting them to the vet if you’re worried. Eyes are classed as an emergency and as treatment is the same for all animals, you can get him/her seen by a general vet.

You may find this guide here helpful in understanding the different varieties of 'goo' that you can find in a piggy's eye from bits of milky cleaning fluid that have not being reabsorbed via the tear duct, transparent dried watery tear fluid, which means that an irritation in the eye has been washed out or is still present if you notice continuing watering, squinting or an indrawn, smaller looking eye; the other symptoms mean that the irritation is still ongoing and that you could be a not ulcerated eye injury (hay poke) or something stuck under a lid that scratches the eye surface. Light blue or greyish gunk is a sign of an ulceration (infection) in the eye due to an injury and needs to be ideally seen as soon as possible as eye injuries deteriorate very quickly but also tend to heal pretty straight forward again when seen promptly.
Thick green/yellow/orange mucussy crusts from a well advanced under- or untreated bacterial respiratory tract infection (URI).

Thanks all for your help. Much appreciated. This was our piggy the other day but it seems to be clearing.. I bathed it with boiled water that had been cooled down but will continue to keep an eye on it

Has your piggy been seen by a vet? Cooled boiled water alone won’t make it better - antibiotics may be needed.

I’d definitely recommend a vet trip with your piggy’s eye that way, meds might be needed as Piggies&buns says.
