It started several days ago it seem to have started off as a wight spot in her one eye and a little glassie or glaze looking we noticed this evening its red and and very puffy almost protruding or bulging there is NO vet available till monday we flush her eye with saline wash . it does not look like pink eye
i have separated her from the other pig i have in case it is contagious any suggestion

Hi, how old is she?
Looks like a cateract forming to me,
If so it will cause no harm, apart from the loss of sight which she will take in her stride.
A blind pig copes with life amazingly well

Pritty shure thats what it is
Though best let your vet have a look to be on the safe side

Thank you so much for getting back to me .I don't know how old she maybe a couple months like I sead I don't have a clue :( .I do hope its just a cataract and not something much more life threatening .if it looks worse by Monday I will take her to the vet if its really really bad and shes is in pain imay have to put her down I have no money to pay a vet to treat her if it gets really bad ..thank you so much

.?put her down? Why, it will cause her or you no problem. I have had many blind and patialy sighted pigs in the
Past that have had no problems, and have incured no vets bills what so ever

... I was only saying if her health gets really bad because I don't know if this eye thing is just some infection or something life threatening. I'm not going to just put her down if something is wrong with her eye ..sorry I probably did not make that very clear ...

Thats ok, l was a but worried there for a moment

From the picture although not too clear I would have initially said a cateract, but you describe bulging and redness. (And she is only young so a cateract is less likely) This is very concerning. Please call a vet for advice. (All vets have a 24hr line for advice even) Eyes are very delicate and need seeing sooner rather than later. I'm worried this is either a penetrating injury or glaucoma. Both very painful and serious. Please call someone for advice.

Sorry to worry you, but it's better to be sure rather than leave the piggie.

Good luck.

thank you for your advice

I can't see too clearly but it could be a corneal ulcer caused by hay penetration. These are extremely painful and need vet assessment straight away. My guinea pig has just recovered from one and needed eye drops plus oral antibiotics for an extended period as it was a large ulcer.

Whatever the diagnosis your pig needs urgent attention.

thank you ..sadly the vets not in till monday so ill give it till then sadly :(

looks like you are in the US exotics vets are rather spread out over there by the sounds of things, keep going with the saline washes for the time being, but it does look very painful from the photo, even a general vet should be able to supply eyedrops for her & i would imagine a painkiller will be needed.

please get her seen by a vet (even a general one) or talk to a vet on the phone for some advice as Abi_nurse says, eyes are very fragile & delicate, even small problems can escalate out of control if left untreated & can result in eye removal if severe circumstances.
the quicker she is treated the more likely she is of making a full recovery if its a hay poke/damage.

as gizzy says our little furball friends can adapt & live life happily being blind, but hopefully it won't come to that anyway so dont have her put to sleep if she's healthy otherwise.

healing vibes & fingers crossed for her.
speedy recovery. xx

We have just called the vet . we have an appointment at 2;00 today :) ill post more after we go

what time is it with you now? its 4pm in the afternoon here.

fingers crossed for your appointment hopefully its an eye poke injury & some eye drops can be given. its usually tiacil or fucalthmic? spelling? over in the uk. not sure what the US equivalent is. but ask if you can have some painkiller for her too (usually metacam in uk- think its loxicom over there but i'm not sure) its likely to have ulcerated and hurt.

Glad you managed to get an appointment... i have mine classed as a childs pet so its a bit cheaper, although they are mostly classed as exotics so bump the price up. might be worth asking, just to get the consultation fee down a bit

Good luck & fingers & paws all crossed here for her  she's very pretty- looks like a crested girly ... ahhh :luv:

xx
