Hi guys. My 3 year old male guinea pig is undergoing eye removal surgery tomorrow due to an infection. Just wondering if anyone else has experienced this? I am a bit worried about the anaesthetic but I have gone to an exotic vet who has done surgery’s in the past to dozens of piggy’s. I live in the UK so would love to hear some experiences and it may help me feel better!

So sorry to hear this.
I haven’t had a piggy with eye removal surgery but I’m sure someone with experience will be along.
I just want you to know that I will be thinking of you tomorrow

Sending support 🙏 I hope everything goes OK. I don't have experience of post op care, but I think having Critical Care and probiotics on hand is a good thing. Poor piggy, was it a hay poke that injured his eye? He is fairly young, which is an advantage ❤️

Thankyou, it was a fight with another piggy before I rescued him sadly he has been blind for the past 2 years so I am hoping that makes recovery easier as he doesn’t have to adapt to not being able to see out of it ❤️

Sending healing vibes to your boy 💓
I don't have personal experience of eye removal surgery, but if you search for "enucleation" you will find quite a few threads where other piggies have needed it (and had a positive outcome).

Hi and welcome

I am very sorry. My Meleri had her eye successfully removed due to a strong abscess causing an infection deep inside the eye by leaking protein further down and causing internal bleeding.
Here is her thread which follows her op and recovery if that helps you: Please keep your fingers crossed for Meleri's eye removal operation!

Here is our post-op care guide with plent of very practical advice and further links: Tips For Post-operative Care

Wishing you and your poorly one all the best.

My Rainbow Bridge piggy Larry had one of his eyes removed due to diabetes.
All went well! When I picked him up I couldn't believe how bright he was! An exotic vet removed his eye too, I think it makes a massive difference.

Good luck to your piggy ❤️

Welcome to the forum. Fingers and paws crossed here for your piggy.

I am also in Manchester, we use Ashleigh Vets in Chorlton they have some very good exotics specialists.

Poor boy. He's lucky you came along. I hope his op is straight forward and successful ❤️🙏
