We had our pig Norman to the vet on Friday for a cloudy, squinty eye. The vet found a piece of hay lodged in his upper lid. They prescribed terramycin ointment 3x a day. His eye is cleared up now and I’m not sure how long we should continue the ointment as it doesn’t say on the container. Does anyone have any advice?

I would ring the vet and check. When my boy did it, the vet wanted to see him a week later and he had to have his eye drops until the vet did the second check and confirmed the ulcer had gone.

:agr: meg is going back today for a final check eye check up after 5 days of eye drops for hay poke.

Your vet should check that it has fully healed (using fluorescent dye and UV light) before you stop the treatment.

Generally you need to give it for a week unless stated otherwise by your vet; the eye drops contain an antibiotic which always needs to be taken for the full course to work sustainably and prevent a return of the infection. If in doubt, please ring the clinic for clarification.
