Hi,

Came home today to find Minnie with a squinted weeping eye, it was clearly troubling her as she was scratching and wiping it, We dont know hoe long it was like it as we were out for a few hours, i got her out and fully opened her eye and found she had a rather long sharp bit of hay sticking out of her eye socket, it wasn't stabbed in her eye or anything, (well i dont think it was), but i managed to get it out but as it was pulled out she did let out a loud squeal, and it was very swollen and weepy for a while and it looked as though her lower eye lid was sagging...... i bathed it with cooled boiled water, it is now looking better, its not so swollen, she is still squinting a little bit, but the thing that is bothering me, is that her eye seems to have misted over a little, its not proper black like it usually is, it has like a misty film over it? Do you know what this could be? I hope it hasn't blinded her......?

Is there anything i could do or put on it?

Sorry about the long post, i think i have covered everything. You help and advise would be appreciated.

The eye misting/clouding over is the eye protecting itself whilst it heals.
You can buy Optrex Infected Eye Drops from chemists or supermarkets which have the active ingredient Chloramphenicol in them or take her to your vets for eye drops.
If you do buy them OTC don't say they are for a guinea pig.

I'm sure i have seen someone say injuries such as this heal themselves but i've always used OIE drops.
