how soon after spraying the hutch with f10 disinfectant can I return my Guinea pig back to his hutch?

I would have said once it’s dry. We don’t have F10 over here though.

No, not at all. I clean the hutch, spray and then add the new bedding and pop pigs back in!

This is what I do too. Apart from at the moment when I'm dealing with ringworm and tackling it by throwing a ton of F10 at the hutch. In this instance I give it a bit of a wipe down first but that's because the piggies would otherwise be swimming :lol!:

I’m dealing with mites! And possible ringworm, just waiting for the vets results to come back! They’ve had their first treatment of xeno50, hutch spray, brand new bedding and il pop them back now! Let’s hope this tackles it!

Hi, I was advised by manufacturers to do deep clean 10ml in 1l of F10SC when dealing with ringworm, during treatment. Doing contact time of 15mins, but ideally letting it air dry as spores are difficult to kill. No need to wash afterwards. Obviously, piggies can't be in the hutch whilst you're cleaning and whilst it's drying. You also need to remove any dirt first, before spraying F10.

For normal cleaning I just spray, wipe and back in. But that's with weaker mix of 2ml or 4ml in 1l depending on health status of piggies and if I am doing deep clean.

Good luck!

I’ve just had a positive test result for ringworm for the guinea pig I haven’t even had for a month yet!
Any tips or advice?

Stick to the medication instructions. When handling pigs always handle the infected one last. Minimise your need to handle them as you can catch it too. Make sure all bedding is changed regularly. Fleece items need to go through a 60 degree wash. Any cardboard or wooden items you need to either bin or thoroughly soak. I left the wooden logs in boiling hot strong F10 liquid for about 2 hours. Make sure you follow strict hygiene procedures for you... And pray that they are the only ones that get it! :))

I had one with ringworm late may, went on holiday for a week and when I came back a further two had it. Luckily it was successfully treated very quickly but now Donald has it again... That said he had an operation for an abscess in November so his immune system probably took a hit

Thank you, I feel awful, I haven’t handled them at all really in the last week :( trying to get them to eat from my hand and hope and pray this gets resolved. The vet wants to treat all 3 as they all live in the same area! My boys don’t have fleece bedding, I will just take away their fleece hideys :(

Mine aren't on fleece bedding either but their cosies, snugglesafe covers and any towels used in handling them are going through a boil wash everytime they are used to ensure that these blasted spores die :lol!:

I never thought of their snuggle safe covers! My washing machine is going to be busy!

Its amazing what you find to wash and disinfect! Don't forget the pet carrier they went to the vets in as well

I never invested in a pet carrier. I just use a trusty old cardboard box.
I was debating telling the breeder I got him from because the day I picked him up, he was still in with his two brothers who were going to someone else.. and she has a herd of somewhere near 40 piggies! So I imagine considering I had him a week before he went to the vets he was infected when I collected him...

It would be wise to mention that this has happened as a warning but be prepared - some breeders will take offence and feel that you are accusing them of bad practice or blaming them (in my experience thats a guilty conscience) so you may or may not get a helpful response but at least you will feel reassured in yourself that you did the right thing by a lot of piggies

My last message to her I mentioned the fact he was very scabby and sore everywhere, she said it was from fighting when he was in with his brothers.. I will message her later today when I pluck up the courage!
Thank you for all your help and advice, I scrubbed the hutches before work this morning.. it made me feel better to see one of my boys properly popcorning around! The little one with ringworm looks terrible, his nose is all scabby and lots of missing fur :(

It will soon grow back. I can already see Donald's hair growing back a week after treatment

The breeder responded to me and said she has never had ringworm there, all they have is fungal face.. sigh

Sounds like an irresponisible breeder to me! Could you report her to RSPCA? or could you try Trading Standards? As she has sold you "faulty goods".:hmm:

I had a long chat with the vet who said fungal face is basically ringworm. I have the results of the tests they did!
Is there any point in reporting her?

Hi, you can try. But these days it's hit and miss. If anything she should be worried it's from her place, therefore there will be more suffering soon...
Have you seen where they were kept? If it's dirty and unsuitable then rspca might help (unfortunately, don't have much power). If she's a "private seller" there's little you can do. Is she registered? How did you find about her?

They are actually kept in really good condition. They have about a third of a barn they live in, if not more! She posted an add on pets for homes I think it was. I got my first 2 boars from her and they have been fine other than biting chunks from each other!
