Hey

We have just brought a new house and the garden is astro grass. We dont have a guinea pig yet we are sort everything out now for them but I am unsure about the astro grass in the garden. Any advice would be much appreciated.
Thank you

I personally would not put guinea pigs on artificial grass due to the risk of it getting substantially hotter than real grass does, and the risk of them chewing it.

Would your piggies be living inside or outside?

Hey,

They would be living outside

Lots of us keep our piggies outside - mine live in a shed - but it’s worth mentioning to have a back up plan if possible while you are in your preparation stages of getting them.
Keeping them outside is becoming much harder due to the heatwaves we are facing (I find summer so much harder than keeping them warm in winter). Anytime it is 25 degrees or more it becomes a danger for heatstroke and for them to remain outside.
Hutches and runs tend to run hotter than the temperature suggests due to sun heated breezes, and then piggies should be moved indoors.

Yeah I was planning to get a set up for the house for if they do need to come in.
Would a clover lawn be again good for them?

Welcome to the forum!

My piggies live in the garage which is attached to the house. It has a large window. They live in a 6ft x 2ft hutch and a 16 square foot run. I move them from the hutch to the run in the morning after cuddle time and then back to the hutch in the evening. This is what works best for me and my piggies. In the winter I put a duvet down over the front of the hutch at night to keep the draught out. They also have snuggle safes and lots of hay to help keep them warm too.

Before we moved, about 7 years ago, my now Rainbow Piggies lived outside in the hutch and I found it very hard keeping them cool in the Summer and warm in the Winter. It was also hard to keep them dry when it rained even though I had a thermal cover and a rain cover on the hutch.

Welcome to the forum.
Looking forward to getting to know you and meeting your piggies when you get them
