Gimz
Teenage Guinea Pig
Sadly my little tort coloured satin piggie, Treacle, died earlier this week. Poor thing had a twisted gut that the vet said there was little we or them could have done anything about. They didn’t feel confident she would have survived an operation even if it was got to earlier. She’d been a little off her food the night before and by morning she’d rapidly deteriorated. I feel so sad that her last moments were painful as her little body went into shock in the vets.
Myself and my family have been quite upset, but after letting her cage mate Ruby realise Treacle had passed over the rainbow bridge, then we held a really nice ceremony last night. My boys decorated her box with hearts and messages and then we buried her next to her favourite bamboo plant.
So long Little squeaker, voracious bar chewer at feeding times and confident explorer of books and crannies. You’ll be missed.
Now we need to quickly find a cage mate for Ruby, who is 3 years old. Would rescue centres allow us to foster another piggie for just the lifetime of our existing piggie?
